Dune 3’s Timothée Chalamet Teases ‘Different’ Paul Atreides

Timothée Chalamet revealed how Paul Atreides will be “different” in Dune 3.

What did Timothée Chalamet say about Paul Atreides in Dune 3?

Dune 3, or Dune: Part Three, will continue the story started in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films. Timothée Chalamet will return as Paul Atreides, the character who, by the end of the second movie, embraced his fate and became emperor.

The third Dune movie will be set 15 to 20 years after the events of the second film, and will show a reimagined Paul Atreides. Though Timothée Chalamet didn’t reveal specifics about the story, he hinted that his character will undergo significant changes.

Timothée Chalamet shared with GamesRadar+ that his character in Dune: Part Three will be older and burdened by the responsibilities of leadership. He described it as a very different portrayal, hinting at the character carrying the weight of years in power.

Filming for the third Dune movie started in July and finished in November, as Timothée Chalamet recently shared during an appearance with Adam Sandler.

Dune: Part Three will adapt “Dune Messiah,” the 1969 novel by Frank Herbert and the second book in the Dune saga.

In addition to Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jason Momoa are all set to reprise their roles in Dune 3. Zendaya will return as Chani, Pugh as Princess Irulan, Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, and Momoa as Duncan Idaho.

Robert Pattinson is expected to play the villain, Scytale, in the upcoming film. Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke will portray Leto II and Ghanima Atreides, who are Paul and Chani’s twin siblings.

I’m so excited to hear that Denis Villeneuve is coming back to direct the third Dune movie! Jon Spaihts is writing the script, which is fantastic news – he really understands that world. And it sounds like the same great producing team is returning too, with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Patrick McCormick, and Tanya Lapointe all on board. It’s shaping up to be another epic!

Both Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2022) were highly praised by critics and fans alike for staying true to the source material. Together, the films have earned over $1 billion worldwide.

Warner Bros. will release Dune 3 in theaters on December 18, 2026.
