A partnership was just revealed on social media: the popular character will be getting a pixelated, block-style makeover.
The toy line has featured several collections based on various themes. It’s also partnered with the Pokémon franchise, bringing Nintendo’s popular characters into the toy collection, although some releases have been limited.
Donkey Kong LEGO Is On The Way
LEGO just revealed they’re creating a Donkey Kong set! The announcement came with a short video showing rolling orange barrels, but details like when it will be released or how much it will cost haven’t been shared yet.
Unlike many new LEGO releases, there haven’t been any early pictures or information shared about the upcoming Donkey Kong set. Now that the set has been officially announced, we can expect a full reveal of what it will include very soon.
Donkey Kong was also featured in expansions for the original Super Mario Bros. sets, including a Mario Kart vehicle and a tree house with the character Kranky Kong. These items are no longer officially sold and are now only available on the resale market.
What Will The Donkey Kong LEGO Set Contain?
Now that Donkey Kong has already been featured in several LEGO Super Mario Bros. sets, everyone is wondering what his own set will look like. The only hint we have so far is a short teaser trailer that showed barrels rolling – and nothing else.
Okay, so I’m really excited about this new LEGO set! It looks like it’s based on the original Super Mario Bros. game, where Mario has to rescue the princess by climbing upwards. I remember Donkey Kong being the big bad guy, constantly throwing barrels at you! You had to either jump over them or smash them with this huge hammer – which is so cool because it still shows up in later games!
If a Donkey Kong LEGO set is released, Pauline might be included too, probably looking like she does in Super Mario Odyssey rather than her original, pixelated design. However, the blocky, retro style could also work well with LEGO, so that older version is still a possibility. Regardless, the Donkey Kong set is expected to be very popular, even though Donkey Kong wasn’t in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and fans will likely need to act fast to get their hands on it.
