There’s been a lot of speculation online about who will play the next Doctor Who. Now, one actress has finally confirmed whether or not she’ll be taking on the role of the Sixteenth Doctor.
As a huge Doctor Who fan, I always get excited seeing who people think could be the next Doctor when a season ends! Recently, there was a lot of buzz about Erin Doherty, who I really like from ‘Adolescence’, potentially taking on the role. Sadly, she’s now said that she won’t be the next Doctor, which is a bit disappointing to hear, even though I’m sure she’ll be amazing in whatever she does next.
In an interview with RadioTimes, Jodie Doherty confirmed she was aware of the fan theories linking her to Doctor Who. While she’s a big fan of science fiction and fantasy, she stated that no one from the show has contacted her about a role. She told the publication, “I’ve heard the Doctor Who rumor, and I’m into sci-fi and fantasy, but I can honestly say there have been no discussions.”
The recent news has left fans wondering again who will be the next Doctor – the Sixteenth one, to be exact. Plus, it’s still unclear what will happen with season 16 of Doctor Who. We know a Christmas special is coming, but as of today, there are no confirmed plans or details about a future season.
I first noticed Gemma Doherty when she played Princess Anne in The Crown – she was fantastic! But what really showed me her range was when she took on the role of a superficial influencer in Chloe. It was a completely different character, and she nailed it. Then, her work in Netflix’s Adolescence really cemented her as a star. Playing the psychologist, Briony Ariston, was incredible, and so deserving of the Emmy and Golden Globe nominations she received!
The actor is returning to television in season two of the Disney+ historical drama A Thousand Blows. She’ll be playing Mary Carr, based on the real-life leader of the notorious all-female gang, The Forty Elephants, and her involvement in London’s criminal scene. The show also features Stephen Graham as bare-knuckle boxer Sugar Goodson.

As of right now, there’s no confirmed release date for Doctor Who season 16.
