Disney’s Eragon TV Show: Combining House of the Dragon & How to Train Your Dragon

Okay, so Disney’s taking on Eragon, and honestly, I’m cautiously optimistic. They seem to be learning from both the successes of franchises like Game of Thrones and the pitfalls of others, aiming for that sweet spot. Look, fantasy is huge on TV right now, and adaptations of popular books often deliver. Combine that with dragons – and let’s be real, everyone loves a good dragon – and Eragon feels like a pretty safe bet. It’s got all the ingredients for a compelling series, and I’m definitely adding it to my watchlist.

I absolutely loved getting into Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle! It all starts with Eragon, where this fifteen-year-old farm boy, Eragon, finds a dragon egg, and it hatches! He and the dragon, Saphira, become bonded, making him the first Dragon Rider in ages. Of course, that puts him right in the crosshairs of the evil King Galbatorix, and suddenly Eragon’s thrown into this incredible adventure across a huge fantasy world. It’s a really captivating story!

The Eragon series is now actively in development, with writers recently beginning work on the show, and Christopher Paolini, the original author, contributing as well. While it will probably be a few years before it appears on Disney+, the show promises to be excellent. It aims to capture the magic of popular dragon-themed stories like HBO’s House of the Dragon and DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon.

Disney+’s Eragon Will Have House Of The Dragon’s Intense Dragon Battles & Politics

Game of Thrones changed fantasy television, and its prequel, House of the Dragon, has continued that success. The new series delivered the political scheming and unexpected turns fans hoped for, while also giving viewers a glimpse into Westeros during the height of Targaryen power and the age of dragons. HBO presented it all beautifully, with each dragon battle more impressive than the last.

Okay, so if you’re a fan of epic fantasy like Game of Thrones, you’ll probably find a lot to love here. The Inheritance Cycle throws you into a really detailed and sprawling world, full of political intrigue – think power-hungry rulers and shifting alliances between countries. And, of course, there are dragons! They’re a major part of the story, and honestly, who doesn’t love a good dragon?

Disney+’s Eragon promises spectacular dragon fights. The dragons in this fantasy world are smart and strong, and share a deep connection with their riders. This makes their battles incredibly intense. Expect the action to be as exciting as the fights in House of the Dragon, but with a key distinction.

Eragon Will Balance HOTD’s Intensity With How To Train Your Dragon’s Coming-Of-Age Whimsy

Disney+’s upcoming show based on The Inheritance Cycle will probably be geared towards teenagers and adults, much like the books. While it likely won’t be as violent as House of the Dragon, that’s not necessarily a drawback. The Eragon series blends complex political storylines with classic coming-of-age themes – exploring things like losing innocence, the responsibilities that come with power, and the journey to find out who you are.

The upcoming Eragon series will share similarities with DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon, as it’s another story about people who ride dragons. While it’s very different from House of the Dragon, it consistently delivers exciting and imaginative adventures.

The How to Train Your Dragon movies are wonderfully uplifting and make you feel like you’re flying with the characters. A live-action adaptation could capture that same sense of wonder, similar to what Disney’s Eragon attempted. Combined with the dramatic power of House of the Dragon, the result could be truly amazing.
