There’s talk that Disney is planning a live-action version of their hugely popular animated movie, Frozen. The original Frozen, released in 2013, was a big hit with both critics and audiences, and it launched a whole franchise. That franchise includes a sequel released in 2019, with two more animated sequels planned, plus shorts and video games like Frozen’s Olaf Quest.
Live-action Frozen movie said to be in works at Disney
Disney is reportedly working on a live-action remake of Frozen, according to industry source MyTimetoShineHello. They shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating a live-action movie is now in development. However, Disney hasn’t confirmed these plans publicly.
While Disney hasn’t officially announced a live-action Frozen movie, the idea isn’t far-fetched. Disney has been making live-action versions of their classic animated films, such as The Lion King and Aladdin, in recent years.
I’m so excited! Disney is finally making a live-action Moana movie, and it’s coming out on July 10, 2026! Plus, I’ve heard rumors that they’re also planning live-action versions of Tangled, Hercules, and even Bambi – that’s amazing news for a Disney fan like me!
While Disney hasn’t officially announced who will star in or work on a possible live-action version of Frozen, several actors have said they’d be interested in being involved.
Anya Taylor-Joy has said she’d love to play Elsa if Disney ever makes a live-action version of Frozen. In an interview with Vogue Hong Kong, the actress joked about how fun it would be to create ice powers on screen and become popular with kids. She also mentioned that all her siblings now have children, and she’d be thrilled if they could say their aunt plays Elsa.
In a recent interview with Elle, Kristen Bell—the voice of Anna in the Frozen movies—shared her wish for Joey King, known for her role in The Kissing Booth, to play Anna if a live-action version of Frozen is ever made.
A third Frozen movie is scheduled for release on November 24, 2027, and plans for a fourth film are also underway.
