With the new sequel now in theaters, the 2016 Disney animated film Zootopia is once again becoming very popular on streaming services. The movie remains critically acclaimed, holding a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Originally released nearly 10 years ago, Zootopia earned over $1 billion worldwide.
The highly anticipated sequel, Zootopia 2, premiered in theaters on November 26th. Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman reprise their roles as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, and this time, the story focuses on the challenges they face working together as partners in the Zootopia police department while solving a new mystery.

According to FlixPatrol, Zootopia is currently the most popular movie on Disney+ worldwide. It’s at the top of the platform’s global Top 10 list, and also number one in the United States. This means it’s performing better than other currently trending titles like Freakier Friday, The Fantastic 4: First Steps, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and the first three Toy Story films.
The voice cast of Zootopia features stars like Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, and Octavia Spencer, along with Alan Tudyk and Josh Dallas. The movie is funny thanks to clever wordplay and hidden details—including a nod to Tudyk’s role in Frozen and a cameo by Ginnifer Goodwin’s husband, Josh Dallas—all while telling a story about overcoming prejudice.
With its success, Zootopia 2 is breaking Disney’s recent pattern of sequels that haven’t lived up to the originals, and is helping to offset some of this year’s box office setbacks. Disney and Pixar’s animated films haven’t been performing as well lately – even Elio, which received decent reviews, wasn’t a success. However, Zootopia 2 benefits from being based on a well-known and popular franchise.
The original Zootopia was a big hit before the pandemic, and excitement for the new sequel, Zootopia 2, is bringing it back into the spotlight. The sequel features a fantastic new cast alongside returning favorites like Andy Samberg and Stephanie Beatriz, including Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimster, Michael J.
