Disney+ is planning to add more short-form videos to its service, building on initial tests of the idea. Since launching in November 2019, Disney+ has become a major competitor to established streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, and this move aims to attract even more young viewers.
Disney+ is adding a new kind of content to its streaming service. The company announced at CES 2026 on December 7th that it will be introducing “microcontent” – short-form videos – later this year, according to Variety. This move comes as short videos have become incredibly popular thanks to platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.
Disney+ has been testing ways to keep viewers engaged, starting in 2025 with “verts” on the ESPN app – short replays of key moments and analysis from recent games. Last year, they also launched What You Need to Know, a brief daily news program featuring Rachel Scott or James Longman. Now, Disney+ is looking to expand these kinds of interactive features across its streaming service.
What We Could Expect From Disney+’s New Content Changes

Even though Disney+ is changing its approach, you’ll still be able to watch the shows and movies you love. The new, shorter videos will likely feature popular titles like Percy Jackson and the Olympians, as well as animated favorites such as Zootopia and Inside Out. Similar to other apps with this feature, Disney+ will personalize these short videos for each viewer.
Disney+ is exploring ways to personalize the experience for viewers, potentially by using their watch history to suggest behind-the-scenes content, interviews, and updates related to shows and movies they’ve recently enjoyed. The company aims to make Disney+ a go-to source for news and information about favorite content. For instance, fans waiting for news about Percy Jackson could find updates directly within their Disney+ account.
