Disney+’s 2-Part Action Series With Near-Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score Is The Ideal Weekend Binge

Disney+ offers a wide range of popular franchises, and one in particular has spawned a thrilling action series perfect for a weekend binge. While Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, and other streaming platforms also offer original shows and franchise-based projects – like the popular series Wednesday and The Boys – this new Disney+ series is sure to captivate viewers.

As a movie and TV buff, I’ve noticed that while Disney+ sometimes surprises with a good standalone show, Hulu seems to consistently deliver those really successful original series, like The Great. But honestly, that doesn’t make Disney+ any less interesting! In fact, its strongest shows really highlight that Disney+ is where you go when you’re craving a deep dive into established franchises – it’s become the place for that kind of viewing experience.

The streaming service features both live-action and animated content from popular franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, and Percy Jackson. Shows like The Mandalorian, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Loki, Daredevil: Born Again, WandaVision, and Ahsoka demonstrate how strongly these franchises attract viewers. Overall, content from the Marvel Cinematic Universe stands out as particularly popular.

With several Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) shows now available on the streaming service, a new space has been created for the hugely popular franchise. This includes shows made specifically for the platform, as well as those that originally appeared on Netflix as part of Marvel’s Defenders Saga. Recently updated, Luke Cage is a great choice for a weekend watch.

Why Luke Cage Is The Perfect Weekend Binge

Mike Colter starred as Luke Cage throughout the two seasons of his own Marvel series, which is widely praised by both critics and viewers. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show boasts an impressive 88% critic score and a 71% audience score. Even its lowest-rated episode on IMDB, “Soul Brother #1” from season 2, still received a respectable 7.0 out of 10, while several episodes achieved a high score of 8.3.

Luke Cage consistently delivers quality across its two seasons, each with 13 episodes. The entire 26-episode Marvel series is easily watchable over a long weekend. It’s packed with superhero action, gritty crime storylines, and unexpected twists that will leave you wanting more. Featuring strong performances from actors like Mahershala Ali, this show is a serious and compelling watch.

Okay, so having watched Luke Cage, it’s clear this show was built for the old Netflix binge-watching style. That means it’s surprisingly lean – there’s very little wasted time. The writers kept things moving with constant cliffhangers and genuinely surprising plot twists, which really held my attention. What I also appreciated was that, despite Luke’s seemingly invulnerable skin, they found clever and creative ways to challenge and even hurt him, making the stakes feel real.

Now Is The Perfect Time To Catch Up On Luke Cage

If you haven’t seen Luke Cage yet, now’s a great time to start! Although the Marvel show ended in 2018, Mike Colter will officially reprise his role as the hero after nine years. Photos from the set of Daredevil: Born Again have confirmed that both Luke Cage and Iron Fist will be returning, with Finn Jones also back as Iron Fist.

With a recent appearance by Iron Fist in season 2 of Luke Cage, now is a great time to revisit the series. Getting caught up on Luke Cage will prepare you for the return of these heroes in the 2027 Daredevil: Born Again season 3. And, it’s simply a fantastic action show with plenty of excitement!
