Disney+ Just Brought Back a ‘Madame Web’ Character for New Marvel Show

Disney+ has chosen a significant secondary character from Sony Pictures’ “Madame Web” for an upcoming Marvel series in 2025, introducing a fresh take on the character. Despite being one of Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man Universe’s biggest disappointments towards the end of its run, with “Madame Web” being among the poorest-performing superhero films critically and financially, the enduring legacy of the film’s characters will carry on due to their rich history in various media.

In the upcoming Disney+ show titled “Iron Man and his Amazing Companions,” the seventh episode will introduce Anya Corazon. Originally brought to life in Marvel Comics in 2004, Isabela Merced played Anya Corazon for the first time in a live-action role within the 2024 film “Madame Web,” which also starred Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, and Celeste O’Connor. With her unique charm, Disney+ has chosen to bring this captivating character into their latest kids’ series, where she will team up with other prominent Marvel heroes.

In the seventh installment of “Iron Man and his Amazing Companions,” entitled “Welcome to Iron Spider,” character Anya is set to appear. Lena Josephine Marano lends her voice to this role. The pair, Iron Man and Anya, will exhibit their superhero abilities in a delightful, age-appropriate action sequence, which appears to take place within the confines of an amusement park.

In the advertisements, Anya displays her remarkable spider-like tech gadget next to Tony Stark, who wears an updated variant of the iconic red and gold Iron Man armor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On her limbs, Anya dons red armor, and she carries four robotic spider legs on her back. Additionally, she equips gloves that enable her to emit strands from her palms, reminiscent of the technology seen in the series similar to Iron Man’s.

In the upcoming episode, details about the plot are yet to be revealed, but Tony and Anya are expected to team up promptly to face off against several formidable adversaries. Among them is Ultron, whose return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2026 is further discussed here.

Despite the fact that this incarnation of Anya Corazon differs significantly from her comic book character or any other portrayal in various media, children will undoubtedly be thrilled by her web abilities and technology reminiscent of Iron Man.

In 2024, the popular portrayal of Anya Corazon was in the film Madame Web, played by Isabela Merced, who also starred as Hawkgirl in the recent DC Superman movie. However, she only displayed her powers in a vision of the future and the final scene of the movie. Yet, she served as one of the main focuses or objectives (often referred to as a “MacGuffin”) that Ezekiel Sims was trying to prevent from becoming superheroes, alongside Mattie Franklin and Julia Carpenter.

In February 2024, the film titled “Madame Web” hit the screens, narrating the transformation of Cassandra Web into a superhero. Following an accident that bestowed her with psychic abilities, she safeguarded three young women from the clutches of Ezekiel Sims. The star-studded cast includes Dakota Johnson, Isabela Merced, Sydney Sweeney, Adam Scott, Celeste O’Connor, and Emma Roberts. Now you can catch “Madame Web” streaming on Netflix!

Will Madame Web Characters Come Back in Other Projects?

In light of Anya Corazon’s character portrayal in “Iron Man and his Awesome Friends“, there’s a growing curiosity among fans about whether she might appear in other media formats. Regrettably, it seems that her presence in live-action is not likely, given the reception of “Madame Web” in cinemas.

The movie produced by Merced, which was released in February 2024, turned out to be one of the most disappointing flops among recent superhero films. It managed to earn a little over $100 million worldwide, barely covering its production costs, and it currently holds a dismal 10% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Due to Sony’s less than impressive performance in recent times, it appears they are not intending to produce any further live-action films immediately following the premiere of Kraven the Hunter, scheduled for December 2024.

It’s difficult to predict what this might mean for Madame Web and her fellow characters, but it seems unlikely that they will make a return to mainstream media in the near future.
