Disney Is Reportedly Rebooting This Fantasy Movie Franchise For A New Trilogy

Disney is planning a major expansion of the popular “Descendants” movie series, with rumors of a brand new trilogy. “Descendants” first became a hit as a Disney Channel Original Movie and offers a fresh twist on classic Disney stories. It follows the teenage children of famous villains like Maleficent, Jafar, and Ursula, offering a new perspective on these iconic characters.

A recent report indicates that Disney is planning a comeback for the Descendants series with a new trilogy of movies. According to insider MyTimeToShineHello on X (formerly Twitter), these films will center around Tatum, the daughter of Tiana, as she attends Auradon Prep and gets to know Fraiser, the son of Flynn Rider.

Okay, so the new movie is going to focus on Tiana’s daughter, Tatum, and her time at Auradon Prep. She’s going to meet Flynn Rider’s son, Fraiser, and it sounds like they’re going to be the main couple throughout the series. Here’s the interesting part: Fraiser isn’t Rapunzel’s son! That throws a wrench into things, making him a bit of both a VK – one of the villain kids – and an AK – one of the good kids. It’s a cool twist, honestly.

As a huge fan, I was so excited to hear about potential stories they could tell with the new Descendants movies! They mentioned they could explore the worlds of classics like The Little Mermaid and Frozen, and honestly, I’m already imagining all the possibilities!

Completing the main cast are Maeve, Merida’s daughter, and Hercules’ children, Harmony and Harvey. Characters from ‘The Little Mermaid,’ ‘Frozen,’ ‘Mulan,’ ‘Encanto,’ ‘Maleficent,’ and ‘Cinderella’ will also be included.

According to MyTime, the story centers on family members of characters like Anastasia Tremaine and Chernabog – villains from Disney films – who successfully overthrow the government in Auradon. They also reported that Kenny Ortega is being considered to direct the project.

I’ve been a big fan of the Descendants series for a while now, and it’s amazing how much it’s grown! We’ve gotten three main movies, plus a spin-off that’s already out and another one that’s still being made. I’m so excited for the next project, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, which is coming out next year – we’re all just waiting to hear the official release date!

Disney hasn’t announced any plans for the Descendants series after the upcoming Wicked Wonderland movie. These new films appear to be starting fresh with a completely new group of characters, marking a reboot of the popular Disney Channel franchise. How Likely Is a New Descendants Trilogy? 

It’s been over six years since the first three Descendants movies finished, and it wasn’t certain if Disney would continue the story with more films beyond the spin-offs they’d already made.

Disney Channel is planning a major comeback for some of its most popular franchises. In 2026, a third Camp Rock movie is finally coming out, and because fans love it so much, the studio is also considering making more Descendants films.

The fact that the new installment appears to be returning to the multi-chapter format of the original three films is especially thrilling for fans who have been hoping for a true Descendants 4.
