Disney has announced its six major movie releases for 2027. This comes after a very strong 2026 lineup, which includes highly anticipated films like Avengers: Doomsday, The Mandalorian & Grogu, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Toy Story 5, and the live-action remake of Moana.
In 2027, Disney could face stiff competition from several highly anticipated releases, including Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, The Legend of Zelda, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Man of Tomorrow, The Batman: Part 2, Shrek 5, and The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, all coming from other major studios.
At a recent event in Sorrento, Italy, Disney revealed details about its movie plans for 2026 and 2027. They highlighted six films scheduled for 2027, calling them their biggest theatrical releases that year.
Disney’s Biggest Movies Coming in 2027
Ice Age: Boiling Point (February 5, 2027)

Originally planned for release in 2026 alongside the movie Avengers: Doomsday, the new Ice Age film, Ice Age: Boiling Point, has been pushed back. It will now be the first film Disney releases in 2027, debuting on February 5th. This sequel follows the 2016 film Ice Age: Continental Drift.
The next Ice Age movie will feature the return of the original voice cast, including Ray Romano as Manny, John Leguizamo as Sid, Queen Latifah as Ellie, Denis Leary as Diego, and Simon Pegg as Buck. However, Sean William Scott, who voiced Crash, believes his character will be written out of the film, and expects Crash to be killed off.
Star Wars: Starfighter (May 28, 2027)

Following The Rise of Skywalker, which premiered in May 2026, The Mandalorian & Grogu will be the first Star Wars film released in theaters. Lucasfilm is already planning another theatrical release for May 2027 with Star Wars: Starfighter, a new, independent story. The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on Deadpool and Wolverine.
Director Levy has gathered a fantastic cast for his new Star Wars film, Starfighter. Leading the group is Ryan Gosling, known for his role in Barbie. He’ll be acting alongside new talent Flynn Gray, as well as established stars like Matt Smith, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Mia Goth, and Amy Adams, who will play a new Jedi character.
The new movie Starfighter is rumored to feature a significant cameo that could lead to a series of three films if it performs well. Currently, the story follows Gosling as he travels across the galaxy with his nephew, who is strong with the Force, while being pursued by villains portrayed by Goth and Smith.
Gatto (June 18, 2027)

Pixar is hoping its next original film, Gatto, directed by Luca‘s Enrico Casarosa and scheduled for release in June 2027, will reverse a recent trend of disappointing box office results for its original movies.
This story unfolds in Venice, Italy, where a black cat named Nero unexpectedly befriends someone who might help him discover what he’s meant to do in life. But Nero also has a problem – he owes a debt to a powerful cat mob boss.
Pixar currently has only one entirely new movie planned for 2027, but a sequel to one of its most popular films is also in the works. Cars: Lightning Racers will bring audiences back to Radiator Springs for more adventures with Lightning McQueen, voiced by Owen Wilson. This installment will be geared towards younger viewers as a Disney Junior series.
The Simpsons Movie 2 (September 3, 2027)

After nearly twenty years, a sequel to The Simpsons Movie is finally coming in July 2027, much to the delight of fans. Disney, which now owns 20th Century Fox after the acquisition in 2019, recently announced plans to release the movie in theaters.
While the specific storyline is still a secret, the previous Simpsons Movie featured the entire town of Springfield being covered by a dome after Homer caused a major pollution incident. Fans can therefore anticipate this new movie will also involve a large-scale story centered around Springfield, likely bigger than what’s typically seen in the show.
Frozen 3 (November 24, 2027)

Okay, Disney officially confirmed it – Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff are all coming back for Frozen 3! I was starting to think we’d never see another one, honestly. It’s been eight years since the last film, but mark your calendars for November 2027. Considering the first two movies made over $2.5 billion worldwide, it’s not exactly a surprise they’re revisiting Arendelle, but it’s still great news for fans like me!
Disney is breaking new ground with Frozen 3 by starting work on the sequel and the fourth movie at the same time. While there’s no release date yet for Frozen 4, this overlapping production schedule should mean fans won’t have to wait as long as eight years for the next installment, unlike the wait for Frozen 3.
Avengers: Secret Wars (December 17, 2027)

Disney plans to conclude its current storyline in 2027 with Avengers: Secret Wars. This film will follow Doomsday by one year and continue the battle against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., in an effort to protect the Multiverse. It’s expected to build upon a significant cliffhanger from the previous year’s events.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m keeping a close eye on the casting for Secret Wars. They’ve revealed 17 cast members so far, but I’m expecting a lot more announcements before filming starts in April. I’m really hoping Marvel is playing their cards close to the chest, like they did with Doomsday, and has a ton of awesome Legacy character returns planned to really excite fans!
Avengers 6 will conclude the Multiverse Saga and begin a fresh start for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is anticipated to be heavily influenced by the 2015 Secret Wars comic book event, where Doctor Doom constructs a world called Battleworld using pieces of destroyed universes.
BONUS.) Bluey: The Movie (August 6, 2027)

Disney revealed the logo for Bluey: The Movie, signaling their collaboration with Ludo Studio and BBC Studios to bring a full-length movie of the popular children’s show to cinemas.
A recent announcement revealed that Bluey is switching from its classic 2D animation to a computer-generated (CG) style. Thankfully, the series’ director, Richard Jeffery, will help direct the upcoming movie, while the show’s creator, Joe Brumm, will oversee the project as an executive producer.
The popular show Bluey has become a huge hit, and the movie based on it, set to release in 2027, is expected to be a big success. It will likely capture the same heartwarming and funny moments that families love about the show, offering a relatable look at everyday life.
