Dirty Dancing Is Leaving Netflix in 2026

Fans have a limited time to stream the classic film Dirty Dancing. It will be removed from Netflix on January 1, 2026, following the expiration of the streaming license on October 1st. Don’t miss your chance to watch Frances “Baby” Houseman and Johnny Castle’s unforgettable summer romance!

As a film lover, I always enjoy revisiting Dirty Dancing. It stars the amazing Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, who you might remember from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The story centers around Baby, a young woman who finds herself on summer vacation with her family in the Catskills back in the early 60s. Honestly, she wasn’t thrilled about the trip at first, but everything changes when she meets Johnny, a charismatic and somewhat rebellious dance teacher at the resort.

Nearly four decades after its release, Dirty Dancing remains a beloved classic, celebrated for its iconic dance scenes and the award-winning song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” – which earned a Grammy, Golden Globe, and Oscar. The film, praised by fans and critics, was even called “the greatest movie of all time” by Jezebel. It currently boasts a high 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter, with critics giving it a 72% rating on the Tomatometer.

Even today, in the 2020s, Dirty Dancing is still highly regarded for its dancing, music, and the way it tackles important themes like social class and a woman’s right to choose – all the things that made it a huge hit when it first came out. Remarkably, the film was made for only $4.5 million but went on to earn over $214 million worldwide.

Grey’s Baby Will Likely Be Heading Back to the Big Screen

After 38 years, Jennifer Grey is set to reprise her iconic role, potentially carrying a watermelon once more, in a new Dirty Dancing movie. While production reportedly began in summer 2024 following delays, the planned summer 2025 release date has passed, and it’s now unclear when – or even if – the film will be released.

Despite the current challenges, Grey gave fans a small preview of what’s to come for her character, explaining that she and the team behind the new Dirty Dancing production are working hard to make it perfect.

The actress told Games Radar in October 2024 that she couldn’t share many details about a potential Dirty Dancing project. She’s holding off on making any commitments until the plans are finalized, explaining that everything needs to be just right. She suggested they revisit the topic later, hoping to have more concrete information then.
