Diddy’s Prosecutors Want A Long Sentence. Now, Ex Cassie Explains Why She’s Worried If His Sentence Is Light

Sean Combs (also widely known as Diddy) is scheduled to be sentenced later this week, several months after his sex-trafficking trial concluded in July. Both legal professionals and celebrities have been discussing how much prison time the 55-year-old rapper might receive. Currently, Combs’ lawyers are requesting a lenient sentence, but prosecutors are reportedly pushing for a harsher one. Meanwhile, Diddy’s former partner, Cassie Ventura, has expressed worries about a potentially lenient ruling.

Prosecutors Have A Specific Sentence Recommendation In Mind For Sean Combs

Months ago, Diddy received a split decision from a jury. He was found guilty on two charges related to transporting individuals for the purpose of prostitution (under the Mann Act), but he was cleared of the more severe accusations of racketeering and sex trafficking. Deadline reports that prosecutors are now seeking an 11-year prison sentence for the Sean John founder. They are also requesting that the music mogul pay a substantial fine, amounting to six figures. In a sentencing memo, U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton stated the following:

Naturally, the defendant won’t be punished for any crimes he was found not guilty of. However, when deciding on a punishment for the crimes he was convicted of, the way he committed those crimes must be considered. These convictions are serious offenses, and similar cases involving defendants-like Sean Combs-who used violence and frightened others have resulted in sentences exceeding ten years. In line with those precedents and based on the evidence proven at trial, this Court should sentence him to at least 135 months in prison.

This request is quite different from what the lawyers for the “Been Around the World” performer asked for last week when they were back in court. At that time, the attorneys asked that Combs be sentenced to no more than 14 months in prison. They claim the First Amendment shields Combs from conviction on the prostitution charges, arguing that the rapper only watched sexual acts-during events such as his Freak Off parties and Wild King Nights-but didn’t take part in them.

Ultimately, the decision rests with Judge Arun Subramanian. He didn’t make a ruling immediately after the defense presented their arguments. It’s still unclear how Judge Subramanian will decide and what he’ll consider. Meanwhile, Cassie Ventura (known professionally as Cassie) has filed legal documents outlining her perspective on the matter.

What Did Cassie Have To Say About Diddy Possibly Receiving a Lighter Sentence?

This week, 39-year-old Cassie provided a three-page statement in New York, describing her relationship with Diddy, whom she dated on and off from 2007 to 2018. A recent memo, obtained by Rolling Stone, frequently mentioned Cassie’s four-day trial testimony (given while she was pregnant). Following her presentation of allegations involving violence, sexual exploitation, manipulation, and other issues – similar to what she shared in court – Cassie stated that she currently focuses on…

I’m keeping things as private and quiet as possible because I’m deeply afraid that if he is released, his first actions will be quick revenge against me and others who testified about his abuse during the trial.

More on Diddy

Here’s a look at how Diddy is said to have reacted when seeing his mother and other family members present at his recent court appearance. Reports detail his alleged response and interactions with them during the hearing. The details shed light on a potentially emotional moment as he faces ongoing legal challenges. It appears he acknowledged their presence, but specifics remain limited at this time. Sources close to the situation suggest a brief, but noticeable, exchange took place.

Cassie played a central role in the legal troubles of Sean Combs. She initially sued him in late 2023, alleging violence, sex-trafficking, and other serious offenses. That lawsuit was resolved quickly, within a day, and subsequently, numerous other individuals – both women and men – filed similar lawsuits against Combs. Some people now suggest that Cassie effectively ended Combs’ career. In a personal statement, Ventura described experiencing “nightmares and flashbacks” related to her relationship with Combs. Additionally, her parents penned a letter, which stated, in part:

Giving a lenient sentence in a case involving such cruel abuse of our daughters’ bodies, safety, and dignity is to invalidate their very lives. A light sentence would also establish a harmful precedent. A sentence measured in months, rather than years, suggests that this kind of repulsive behavior can occur without serious repercussions. It sends a message that there won’t be meaningful consequences for harming someone’s safety and dignity. This is unacceptable.

Cassie isn’t alone in voicing worries about Diddy’s sentencing. Aubrey O’Day, who used to be in Danity Kane, predicted the legal team would try to show Combs as a more likable person. It’s still unclear exactly what will happen at the hearing. But we’ll find out on Friday, October 3, if Judge Subramanian’s sentence favors the prosecution or what the defense is asking for. This decision will reveal which side the judge leans towards. Many are watching closely to see how this unfolds.
