Sean “Diddy” Combs’ trial largely went in his favor. He was found not guilty on the most severe charges, but convicted on two counts of violating the Mann Act – specifically, for arranging to transport male escorts across state lines for prostitution. Although his lawyers are appealing these convictions, the process of determining his sentence is still underway.
Diddy is set to be sentenced on October 3rd, and lawyers for both sides are currently filing documents outlining their recommended punishments. Interestingly, despite being found guilty of arranging for male escorts, Diddy’s legal team now believes these same escorts could potentially help his case during sentencing.
What We Knew About The Male Escorts In Diddy’s Freak-Offs
Interviews with a male escort who worked for Diddy, along with court testimony, have revealed details about Diddy’s “Freak Off” parties. Diddy’s former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, testified that Diddy forced her to have sex with male prostitutes he hired. One escort, Daniel Philip, stated that Diddy took a photo of his driver’s license, which he felt was an intimidation tactic.
Ultimately, Diddy was found guilty of arranging transportation and payment for the men involved. However, the defense believes interviews with many other male escorts who were questioned by prosecutors could potentially help lessen Diddy’s sentence.
How Diddy’s Lawyers Hope The Escorts Will Help Him Now
Business Insider reports that statements male escorts made to prosecutors before the trial are unexpectedly supporting the defense’s case. The defense team intends to file legal documents requesting the court consider this information when determining the final sentence. While prosecutors view these escorts as victims, the defense disagrees with that characterization.
We don’t know the specifics of what these individuals said that Diddy’s legal team believes will help his case, but their statements could lead to a lighter sentence if they suggest the men involved were willing participants. If these individuals aren’t considered “victims,” it could lessen the severity of Diddy’s convictions.
Prosecutors want Sean “Diddy” Combs to receive at least a five-year prison sentence. His legal team, however, is arguing for no jail time, stating he’s changed his behavior. He could potentially face up to 20 years in prison, as each charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.
