Even though Michael C. Hall’s character, the Bay Harbor Butcher, is still around, the police in Dexter: Resurrection season 2 will now concentrate on a different serial killer that was hinted at earlier.
As the writing team continues work on the second season of Dexter: Resurrection, Kadia Saraf, who plays Detective Claudette Wallace, recently met with writer Scott Reynolds before filming begins this spring. Reynolds shared a photo of their get-together on Instagram, hinting at what fans can expect from Wallace’s storyline: she’ll still be investigating the New York Ripper.
According to what Per Reynolds shared, Detective Wallace will likely spend a significant part of Dexter: Resurrection season 2 reinvestigating the New York Ripper case. Season 1 slowly showed that Wallace previously tried for a long time to find and arrest the Ripper, but failed. This pursuit caused her a lot of personal and professional difficulties before Dexter Morgan moved to New York.
The season one finale of Dexter: Resurrection significantly advanced the investigation into the New York Ripper. Before leaving Leon Prater’s house, Dexter intentionally left a file for Wallace, which ultimately revealed the killer’s identity: Don Framt. This discovery gives Wallace a clear new direction for the case.
At first, it was uncertain whether the new season of the show would heavily feature Wallace’s investigation into the New York Ripper, especially since Dexter had taken a boat containing files on other serial killers and appeared to be starting his own investigations. But Clyde Phillips, the showrunner, has now confirmed that the New York Ripper will be a central focus in season 2 of Resurrection, making him a primary target for both Wallace and her partner, Detective Oliva (Dominic Fumusa), as well as for Dexter himself.
Season 1 focused on Harrison and his father covering their crimes from the NYPD. Now, with the arrival of the New York Ripper in Season 2, the show will revisit a familiar pattern from the original Dexter series. Like in past seasons, where Dexter and the police investigated the season’s main villain independently – think the Trinity Killer or the Ice Truck Killer – the investigation will unfold on two tracks.
Despite hints that Don Framt, known as the New York Ripper, will be a major villain, the actor cast to play him in Dexter: Resurrection hasn’t been announced yet. Season one featured a fantastic cast including Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, and Neil Patrick Harris, so expectations are high for who will join the show’s criminal element this season.
We won’t have to wait too long for news about the next season. Although the writing is still in progress and official announcements haven’t been made yet, Phillips recently revealed that Resurrection season 2 is scheduled to premiere in October 2026. For now, expect any further details about Dexter: Resurrection‘s future to come through hints and clues from the actors and crew.
