Dexter: Resurrection Is Killing A Lot Of Characters, But I Think One Will Play A Major Role In The Next Season

Heed this notice! The ensuing details might reveal spoilers for the ‘Dexter: Resurrection‘ episode titled “Course Correction”. To watch it, consider subscribing to Paramount+. Proceed with caution if you wish to avoid any spoilers!

In this paraphrased version, I aimed to make the text more conversational and easy to understand for a wider audience. The emphasis on warning about potential spoilers remains while also providing a clear call-to-action for those interested in watching the episode.

In the revival series “Dexter: Resurrection“, an impressive ensemble of actors was assembled for the season. However, Dexter’s signature killing spree has managed to reduce many of these talented performers’ characters. The most recent episode marked the demise of David Dastmalchian’s Gemini Killer, following Dexter’s confrontation with the twin murderers. Now, only a few major newcomers from Season 2 remain alive in the storyline.

Despite all the murder and vigilante actions, there’s a strong possibility that at least one significant character might avoid the Bay Harbor Butcher’s vengeance. I dare say, they may even form an unlikely friendship with Leon Prater if the current trajectory of this season continues as anticipated.

Dexter: Resurrection Has Leaned Heavily On A Theme Of Acceptance

In the series titled “Dexter: New Blood“, we see Dexter discussing his “Dark Passenger” with his son, a term for his homicidal tendencies. Unfortunately, this conversation ends tragically when Dexter gets shot in the chest. Despite their improvement in Resurrection, it’s evident that Dexter is keen on keeping his son distanced from his murderous activities as much as possible.

In many aspects of his life, Dexter often looked for individuals who could tolerate him being a killer. This search extended over a significant period, from Harry, his mentor, to Lila West, an ex-girlfriend, and even his sister Deb. However, he never found someone who would wholeheartedly accept his dark side without eventually causing complications further down the line.

In Harrison’s absence, I can’t help but ponder if it wouldn’t feel liberating for Red Schmidt to let down his guard around Leon. The financial rewards are undeniable, yet I often find myself questioning: might Dexter, deep down, appreciate having a genuine admirer who appreciates his skill as a serial killer, beyond the monetary aspect?

Prater Gave Dexter An Opening To Admit He Isn’t Red Schmidt

In the captivating scene from “Course Correction”, Leon approached Dexter following the latter’s heartfelt confession about loneliness as a serial killer. Prater praised Dexter’s honesty and subsequently revealed a personal detail. His obsession with collecting killers, as we found out, stemmed from his adolescence when he forged a friendship with an individual serving time for killing his parents.

I appreciate your bravery in sharing that with me, but I must admit it felt a bit monotonous.

The truth is never boring. You’ll never know what it may spark in someone.

The movie “Resurrection” seemed to lay the groundwork for the audience to recall it significance, and I can’t help but think it’s a strong indication that Leon will eventually discover he is face-to-face with the Bay Harbor Butcher. It remains unclear how he will react to this revelation and how he’ll feel about knowing that the most recent member of his club deceived him, and was also responsible for the deaths of many within the group. Leaving out the last detail might be an option for Dexter, but considering the circumstances, it seems fitting to disclose everything truthfully instead.

Prater Is Not Technically A Serial Killer

As a die-hard fan, I’ve often pondered if Dexter and Leon Prater could forge an unlikely alliance. Contrary to popular belief, Leon isn’t your typical serial killer; he’s more like a wealthy eccentric with a twisted fondness. He seems intent on drawing us into his exclusive circle and showering us with funds, allowing us to continue our… unique professions.

According to Harry’s rules, for Leon to appear on Dexter’s list of targets, he would need to be a proven murderer. However, Leon hasn’t killed anyone himself, but rather his assistant Charley committed the murders of the Canton Clubber and Lady Vengeance, making it look like suicides. Although Leon might be considered the mastermind, the question remains whether this is enough to fulfill the code. Previously, Dexter has bent the rules for others, so it’s possible that Leon could avoid being the Bay Harbor Butcher’s next victim for now.

Prater Could Help Dexter Take Care Of Batista

Dexter is so deeply engrossed in the Serial Killers Club that he’s overlooked Angel Batista’s current pursuit of the NYPD, where he’s spreading rumors claiming Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher. This situation is leading to a confrontation between the two former colleagues. Batista is determined to catch up with Dexter and this time, there’s a high possibility that Dexter could be arrested and charged for his actions.

It seems quite evident that knowing influential people can open many doors in this world. Prater might function as Dexter’s ticket out of trouble, perhaps even protecting Angel. I’m not convinced he’d be comfortable with how Angel is treated, but Prater has been successful in keeping his actions concealed from the serial killers thus far.

Dexter Seemingly Wants Credit For Being The Bay Harbor Butcher

Previously, I discussed how the series “Dexter: New Blood” presents Dexter in a new light, suggesting that he has become more villainous much like Walter White in “Breaking Bad.” Despite his self-proclaimed mission to bring justice against criminals, Dexter seems to have developed an odd sense of pride or arrogance about his role as a serial killer.

More On Dexter: Resurrection

I Like Dexter: Resurrection, But Am I The Only One Who Thinks It Has The Wrong Main Character?

For instance, Dexter eliminated the “Dark Passenger” mainly because it was using his identity. In the bookstore, we observe that Dexter felt compelled to turn to the chapter about the Bay Harbor Butcher’s work. A sense of displeasure could be seen on Dexter’s face when he discovered James Doakes had been given credit for solving that case, which was beneficial for him since it meant the case was officially closed.

Dexter can’t reveal his true identity and live freely, but with Leon, he has at least one person who understands him and backs his actions. Perhaps he might even find more individuals like himself for him to manage. However, it gives me pause to consider how he’ll react to having his “clients” pursued by another murderer, as that appears to be a significant breach of his own principles.

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel that we’re on the brink of another captivating season starring Peter Dinklage. It’s only a matter of time before they delve deeper into their relationship dynamics, which, from my perspective, seems destined for a rocky road ahead. We’ve seen Dexter veer off his moral compass in the past to satisfy certain needs, and I suspect Leon will become the next challenge he can’t resist. Will they navigate this tricky situation successfully, or will it lead to their downfall? I’m eagerly anticipating the unfolding of these events!
