There’s growing hope that Zack Snyder’s vision for the DC Universe – often called the Snyderverse – could return. Reports suggest the studio is considering a move that would bring it closer to reality. Snyder played a key role in creating the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), including casting many of its stars and directing some of its most successful films.
Zack Snyder’s DC films often spark debate, but he has a dedicated group of fans. After Snyder was replaced by Joss Whedon during the production of the 2017 film Justice League, those fans campaigned for his original vision to be released. This ultimately led to Zack Snyder’s Justice League premiering on HBO Max in 2021. Now, fans are hoping another studio will allow Snyder to complete his plans for the DC Universe, and that may actually happen.

For several years, fans have been actively trying to get Zack Snyder’s films and related projects streamed on Netflix, following his departure from DC. A new development – reports that Netflix is considering acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery – could make that possibility a reality.
Bloomberg reports that both Netflix and Comcast are considering acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery. If Netflix were to buy Warner, it would gain the rights to popular DC movies and TV shows, potentially bringing Zack Snyder’s DC universe – often called the ‘Snyderverse’ – to the streaming platform.
Netflix’s Former Movie Executive Already Addressed The Snyderverse’s Return Chances
After a strong fan campaign to revive the Snyderverse and the positive reception of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max, the idea reached Netflix. In 2024, Scott Stuber, who was then head of Netflix Films, discussed the possibility of bringing back Zack Snyder’s DC universe, but unfortunately, the news wasn’t what fans wanted to hear.
According to Netflix executive Stuber, bringing back Zack Snyder’s DC universe is complicated because they don’t own the rights to it. However, Stuber shared that Netflix was interested in licensing the Snyderverse, stating, “More Zack is better for us.” If Netflix had owned the DC rights – which was the main obstacle, according to Stuber – then a return of the Snyderverse could have been possible.
There Is A Perfect Way For The Snyderverse And James Gunn’s DCU To Co-Exist

If Netflix were able to use DC’s characters and stories, the biggest obstacle to continuing Zack Snyder’s vision (‘the Snyderverse’) would be James Gunn’s new DC Universe. But the two could actually work together. Snyder has previously said he’d be happy to complete his planned Justice League trilogy as an animated series.
It would be great to see Zack Snyder’s vision continue, both for the sake of the planned 10-year DC Universe and to give the Snyderverse a proper conclusion, especially for beloved characters like Henry Cavill’s Superman. Since DC frequently releases standalone animated films, reviving the Snyderverse as an animated series would be a perfect way to keep it separate from the main DCU.
