Bruce Wayne isn’t the only superhero who leads a double life as a successful businessperson. It was recently announced at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con that a lesser-known hero is making a comeback to DC Comics.
New Vixen Series From Stephanie Williams On The Way
At the DC Next Level panel during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Vixen will lead her own ongoing comic series – her first ever. The new series is part of the initiative that began in March 2026.
She’s incredibly wealthy, similar to Bruce Wayne, but unlike him, she doesn’t lead a double life. While she has both a public identity as businesswoman Mari McCabe and a superhero persona as Vixen, everyone already knows who she is – she doesn’t need a secret identity. This means she lives very publicly, which sets her apart from most superheroes, and I’m interested in exploring what that’s like: the constant scrutiny, how it affects her, and the challenges it presents.
Williams shared that her Vixen comic series will include horror elements as it delves deeper into the origins of the totems that give Mari her animal powers. She also hinted at the introduction of Vixen’s first major villain and plans to develop a substantial collection of enemies for the hero in future issues.
According to Williams, Khary Randolph will be the artist for Vixen. He’s an award-winning illustrator who has worked with major publishers like DC (including Lee Bermejo’s We Are… Robin), Marvel (Deadpool, Peter Parker: Spider-Man), and Image Comics, where he collaborated with Todd McFarlane on Spawn.
Stephanie Williams’ Vixen Comic Is A Long Time Coming
As a huge comics fan, I was so stoked to hear Stephanie Williams – the first Black woman nominated for an Eisner for Best Writer – is finally making her dream project, Vixen, a reality! She’s been talking about her ideas for this series since 2024, sharing them online, and it’s awesome to see years of her hope – and the hope of her fans – come to fruition. It feels like a really special moment for her and for the whole comics community.
Rumors started circulating in 2026 after she posted character designs on Instagram. Excitement reached its peak in June when Scott Snyder seemed to hint at her involvement with a new DC project during HeroesCon in Charlotte, North Carolina.
At San Diego Comic-Con, actress Megalyn Echikunwoke confirmed the long-awaited live-action adaptation of the comic book series Vixen. Created by Gerry Conway and Bob Oksner and first appearing in 1981’s Action Comics #521, Vixen has previously been portrayed by Echikunwoke herself as Mari McCabe in Arrow (and a subsequent animated web series), and by Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Amaya Jiwe in Legends of Tomorrow.
Jody Williams has gained recognition for her impactful contributions to comic book storytelling, notably creating Vixen. Vixen is a groundbreaking character – DC Comics’ first Black female superhero – and works alongside Wonder Woman as both a friend and partner.
