DC Comics recently introduced Bruce Wayne’s grandson in the pages of DC K.O.: Knightfight #3. The Bat-Family – the group of heroes allied with Batman in Gotham City – is always growing. It already includes key figures like Batman, Nightwing (Dick Grayson), Robin (Tim Drake), and Damian Wayne (Batman’s son). To mark Damian Wayne’s 20th anniversary, DC Comics made a surprising announcement: a new addition to the Bat-Family that significantly impacts Bruce Wayne’s story.

The latest issue of DC K.O.: Knightfight #3 revealed a new member of the Bat-family: Alfred Wayne, the grandson of Bruce Wayne and son of Damian Wayne. This surprising reveal happened at the end of the issue, after Bruce Wayne was sent to another reality – thanks to the Heart of Apokolips – where Damian is Batman.

In the comic DC K.O.: Knightfight #4, it’s revealed that Alfred Wayne was once Robin, early in his life, within this version of the DC universe. This Alfred is named after Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth, as a way to honor Damian’s old friend and teacher.

The surprising thing about this new Batman is that he’s created a Gotham where crime is mostly gone, allowing him to settle down and have a son. Interestingly, the entire Bat-Family is thriving in this version of the city, too.

As a huge Damian Wayne fan, I was thrilled to see Knightfight #4 essentially confirm that his Batman is the one who truly saved Gotham! It showed him taking down every major villain, proving he’s the definitive hero the city needed. It’s amazing because it means his hard work finally brought lasting peace – Gotham doesn’t need a Batman anymore, thanks to him!

Although his mother remained unknown in this version of the story, the comics showed that Alfred Pennyworth’s father was a member of the al Ghul family. Alfred had a happy childhood in a calm Gotham City, and he always saw Batman as a true hero.

There Is a Heartbreaking Catch About Bruce Wayne’s Grandson Reveal 

Since the Heart of Apokolips brought Bruce Wayne here, it’s important to remember that everything he’s experiencing is just a test – a vision designed to push his limits before a future battle. In other words, this isn’t a real universe.

This discovery means the ideal Batman Damian described, and his son Alfred Wayne, aren’t real either. It’s deeply upsetting for Bruce, especially considering he was leaning towards staying in this life, encouraged by Damian’s hope that he would stay for his grandson.

To make things even more difficult, the Heart of Apokolips showed that this reality would still be destroyed, even if Batman remained. This highlights the central tragedy of Batman’s story: he can’t truly find peace until he finishes his never-ending quest.

Fans have speculated that this different version of Damian Wayne might somehow join the main DC universe, especially since he’s depicted as an ideal Batman in his own world. While it’s unlikely, the Knightfight storyline has already shown anything can happen (issue #3 even featured multiple female Batmans!), leaving the door open for a surprising return for both Damian and Alfred sometime in the future.
