DC Officially Reveals Lobo Design For Jason Momoa’s Supergirl Debut

The DC Universe is about to introduce Lobo in the Supergirl series. With 2025 nearing its end and plans for the DCU continuing in 2026, Milly Alcock, as Kara Zor-El (Supergirl), will be the focus next summer.

The first trailer for Supergirl is here, giving fans a preview of her standalone story. It also revealed Jason Momoa’s first appearance as Lobo in the DC Universe! You can watch it below.

In December 2024, before filming began, it was announced that Lobo would appear in the Supergirl movie. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film wrapped up production in May 2025.

Jason Momoa is well-known for his role as Aquaman in DC movies, beginning with a cameo in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and continuing through both versions of Justice League. He also starred in his own Aquaman films, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom marking the end of that particular storyline.

Now that Jason Momoa is joining the cast of Supergirl, Warner Bros. is at last making progress on bringing the character Lobo to the big screen. The studio has been trying for years to develop a solo film for the bounty hunter, with directors like Guy Ritchie, Brad Peyton, and Michael Bay previously considered to helm the project.

Lobo appeared in season 2 of SYFY’s Krypton, played by Emmett J. Scanlan, and played a significant role in the show’s storyline. Plans for a spin-off series centered around his character were underway, but those plans were cancelled when Krypton itself ended.

I’m really curious to see how Lobo will fit into the first chapter of the new DCU, “Gods and Monsters,” especially after Jason Momoa makes his first appearance as him in the Supergirl movie. But Momoa actually told Ash Crossan from Screen Rant a while back that he’s hoping to play Lobo for a long time, which is awesome to hear!

I’ve always dreamed of playing this role, and this comic was a big part of my childhood, so I’m definitely feeling the pressure! It felt like a natural fit, honestly. We’ve really tried to capture the character’s look and personality, and I think we’ve succeeded. He’s a tough, no-nonsense guy… and the motorcycle is amazing.

Ash Crossan: Do you think we’ll be hanging out with him for a while?

I really hope so! It’s fantastic that this film centers around her; I only have a small role in it.

The film by Alcock is adapted from the comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, created by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Although Lobo wasn’t actually in the eight-issue series, Tom King shared in February 2023 that he had initially planned a story where Lobo and Supergirl teamed up.

I originally proposed a story featuring both Lobo and Supergirl, but my editors, Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich, suggested focusing solely on Supergirl and reimagining her as a tough, gunslinging character similar to Rooster Cogburn. The book wouldn’t have happened without their guidance.

DC Studios’ Supergirl opens on June 26, 2026.
