The latest Batman film is coming out next month. It will cover the popular “Knightfall” storyline from DC Comics, which is too complex to fit into just one movie.
Batman: Knightfall Will Be Told in Three Installments
Morales explained there was an incredible amount of material to work with – enough for three separate movies. As someone hoping to have a lasting career, that was a huge draw. He initially proposed making eight films, hoping to secure long-term employment.
Krieg explained that the initial idea was to adapt the story into two films, and they agreed to try. They began writing, hoping it could actually be done in two parts, but secretly believing it would work better as a trilogy. The source material naturally lends itself to a three-part structure, with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Once they mapped it out, it became obvious that dividing the story into three films was the right approach.
The Legendary Comic Book Arc Gets Reimagined
In the classic comic storyline, Azrael temporarily becomes Batman after Bane breaks Bruce Wayne’s back. Azrael’s approach to fighting crime is far more brutal, prompting the recovering Bruce Wayne to fight to regain his identity and clear his name. The animated movie Knightfall stars Anson Mount as Batman, Pablo Schreiber as Azrael, Jack Giffin as Robin, and Bruce Boxleitner as Commissioner Gordon.
As a huge Batman fan, I’m excited to share some release news about Knightfall! They’re breaking it up into three parts, and the first one drops digitally on August 25th. If you like owning physical copies, you can get your hands on the 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD versions starting September 8th. We’ll have to wait a little longer for Part 2 – it’s slated for sometime in 2026 – and the final chapter isn’t coming until 2027. They haven’t announced exact dates for those last two parts yet, but I’ll be keeping an eye out!
