Despite not gaining traction with the White House, NBC’s nightly news program has received positive feedback from Nielsen.
I was so glad to hear David Letterman stick up for Seth Meyers! After Trump started criticizing Seth, David said he’s never been prouder of his work, even with all the heat from the White House. He was talking on The Barbara Gaines Show and just seemed amused by the whole thing, wondering how Trump would even try to get Seth fired. It’s great to see comedians supporting each other like that!
David Letterman’s remarks follow a recent dispute where the President criticized Seth Meyers on his social media platform, demanding NBC address jokes made about him during Meyers’ show. The President labeled Meyers as having ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome,’ and the post was reportedly shared by the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.
He reportedly had a major outburst last night, seemingly because his show is performing very poorly in the ratings. The source went on to say that, beyond everything else, Meyers lacks talent and NBC should cancel his show right away.
Letterman disagreed with the President’s suggestion that Seth Meyers’ show should end, and instead praised Meyers’ skills as a host.

He was surprisingly complimentary, calling Seth’s work ‘magical.’ But then things took a really weird turn. Letterman started hinting at danger, saying ‘things happen,’ and asking if Seth understood what he meant. It was a pretty unsettling moment, especially considering he followed that up with a veiled reference to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Honestly, it felt less like friendly advice and more like a… warning.
Meyers Is One of Many Night Staples to Face Donald Trump’s Scrutiny
Seth Meyers isn’t alone in receiving criticism from the President and his supporters. Donald Trump has also targeted Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon, and recently called former late-night host David Letterman a “loser.” Letterman left his show back in 2015.
In a September post on Truth Social, Donald Trump questioned what had become of David Letterman, adding that Letterman’s ratings weren’t impressive. He also commented on Letterman’s appearance, saying he looked unwell, but acknowledged that Letterman had made the right decision to retire when he did.
Letterman was deeply disturbed by recent comments and the President’s actions. During an interview on a show hosted by his old producer, he strongly criticized the President, calling him a “dictator” and his administration “a wonder of idiocy.” Letterman described the situation as far worse than anything he’d ever witnessed, saying it was “18 times the worst behavior” he could recall, exceeding even the most terrible things humans have done.
