David Harbour Exits Upcoming Film Project Following Concerning Reports

David Harbour has left the upcoming movie Behemoth!, according to Searchlight Pictures. The drama, directed by Tony Gilroy (known for Michael Clayton), was set to star Harbour alongside Pedro Pascal and Olivia Wilde.

I was really surprised to hear that David Harbour won’t be returning for the final season of Stranger Things. Apparently, the pressure of getting everything ready for the rollout just became too much for him, and he needed to prioritize his well-being and take a break. I’ve heard they’ve already found someone new to take over the role, but they’re keeping that information under wraps for now.

Recently, David Harbour has been receiving attention for personal reasons, not just his role in Stranger Things. This increased after his ex-wife, singer Lily Allen, released her album West End Girl, which openly discussed the difficulties and eventual end of their marriage. In November, reports surfaced about harassment allegations made against Harbour (specifically stating the harassment was not sexual), prompting a several-month investigation. As a result, Brown filmed Season 5 of Stranger Things with someone dedicated to supporting her on set.

The problem has reportedly been fixed, and the two actors also shot a lot of scenes together for the upcoming season.

Filming those scenes with David Harbour felt really nostalgic, bringing back memories of seasons two and three. It was great to revisit the dynamic of Eleven growing up and finding her voice, and Hopper trying to guide her. That familiar tension and connection is definitely back, and I can’t wait for fans to see it. Eleven and Hopper’s scenes have always been a fan favorite, and it was wonderful to bring that relationship back to the screen.

New worries surfaced after reports of an incident where Harbour allegedly stole a hat from a pub in California. Harbour has previously been open about his mental health, revealing he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was 26 years old.

David Harbour Exits Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth!

Since becoming well-known for his role as Sheriff Hopper in the hit series Stranger Things – which ended with a hugely popular finale on New Year’s Eve – Harbour has been consistently working. He’s become part of the Marvel universe, playing Red Guardian in Black Widow and Thunderbolts, and is set to reprise the role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Beyond that, he starred in the Hellboy reboot in 2019, appeared in the action film A Working Man with Jason Statham, and was in the movie Gran Turismo based on the video game. He’s also provided voice work for the animated series Marvel Zombies and Creature Commandos.

Details about the plot of Behemoth! are currently being kept secret. What we know is that it follows a musician who comes back to Los Angeles, and the film is described as a celebration of movie music and the people behind it. Dan Gilroy directed and wrote the screenplay. The cast includes Olivia Wilde, Jack Pascal, Matthew Lillard, and Eva Victor. Filming started in October 2025, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
