Dave Bautista is back with another action-packed film, Trap House, hitting theaters November 14th. He stars alongside established actors like Bobby Cannavale, Kate del Castillo, and Tony Dalton, but it’s the talented young cast who truly shine. Bautista says this was intentional, and their performances are so impressive, they could easily spin off into a whole new action series.
I was reading an interview with Dave Bautista over at MovieWeb, and he was talking about his new movie, Trap House. Joe Deckelmeier asked him what he thought of the younger actors – Jack Champion, Sophia Lillis, and Blu del Barrio – and if they impressed him. Bautista initially said ‘Nothing,’ which threw me for a second! But he quickly explained that wasn’t him playing a character. He already knew they were fantastic, and it all came down to really smart casting choices. He said they were very careful about who they picked for the film, and honestly, it shows. He even hinted that Trap House could be the beginning of a huge action franchise, which is exciting to hear!
I initially envisioned this movie as the start of a series, and always intended it to focus on a younger cast. The first film needed to introduce those characters and their connections, but I saw myself as a supporting player – a parent figure in the background – so the story could truly center on them and their journeys moving forward.
Dave Bautista believes the film’s young cast members are on their way to becoming stars, and that’s already starting to happen with actors like Whitney. He mentioned they recognized this potential during filming and made a conscious effort to support them, predicting that both Whitney and Jack will become very popular.
What Is ‘Trap House’ About?
Directed by Michael Dowse and written by Gary Scott Thompson and Tom O’Connor, the movie follows a DEA agent (Dave Bautista) trying to dismantle a large drug cartel. When a fellow agent is killed, and his family receives minimal compensation, the agent’s determined teenage son (Jack Champion) takes matters into his own hands, assembling a team to steal money directly from the cartel. The result is a thrilling, high-octane action film packed with explosions and shootouts, but also surprisingly heartfelt. Here’s what the movie is about, according to the official description:
In El Paso, Texas, a DEA agent working undercover finds himself in a surprising and dangerous situation: chasing thieves who turn out to be his own teenage children.
As of today, there’s no word on whether a sequel to Trap House is planned. However, if the movie does well after its release on November 14th, we can likely expect news about Trap House 2 very soon.
