Dave Bautista & Jason Momoa’s Prime Video Movie Gets Sequel Update

Good news for fans of the recent action film starring Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa! Their on-screen chemistry, which stems from their real-life friendship, quickly proved popular with audiences. As a result, discussions about making a sequel are now underway.

Director Ángel Manuel Soto, who made The Wrecking Crew, explained that the movie’s ending hints at a sequel. The next film could focus on Jonny (played by Jason Momoa) seeking revenge for his mother’s murder.

Soto described a poignant scene on the beach where the characters burned a piece of paper, symbolizing a release of something from the past. However, he emphasized that Jonny is determined to find the person who killed his mother, and he believes Jonny has already committed the name to memory.

Jonny and James (Dave Bautista) killed a member of a Japanese crime family, Nakamura, and this act is likely to have consequences.

According to Soto, the man isn’t in charge—he’s the boss’s son. Soto believes the son likely sent a problematic family member to Hawaii to handle things. And, Soto warns, killing the boss’s son would be a very bad idea.

Soto shared that a second installment of The Wrecking Crew is in development, with Jonathan Tropper already brainstorming ideas. Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista are both confirmed to return for the sequel.

The director explained they intentionally left some plot points unresolved to allow for a follow-up movie, and that there’s strong interest in making one.

Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista Channel Buddy Cop Nostalgia in The Wrecking Crew

The movie The Wrecking Crew intentionally feels like those classic buddy cop films from the 80s and 90s. Director Ángel Manuel Soto has explained that he drew inspiration from movies like Lethal Weapon and 48 Hours, which he loved growing up as an action comedy fan.

Soto explained that he wanted to recapture the feeling and memories he had while watching those films, letting them inspire his work.

Parker gave the film a 7 out of 10, noting that The Wrecking Crew provides exactly what audiences anticipate: a lively, action-packed experience with a classic buddy-cop pairing and strong performances from Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista.

The story isn’t particularly groundbreaking, but it’s still a fun, easy watch – a nostalgic throwback to classic 80s action movies.

The Wrecking Crew is now streaming on Prime Video.
