Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, portrayed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is quickly becoming one of the most fascinating figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since her debut in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Black Widow, she’s been a powerful behind-the-scenes player, operating within government and intelligence agencies and clearly above the typical hero or villain. Her recent actions in Thunderbolts demonstrate just how much influence she wields and how far she’ll go to achieve her goals. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ performance has made Val a compelling character, and fans are eager to see more of her story unfold.
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were thrilled when a character’s name came up in the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again. Many believed this signaled a significant role for the character and a possible appearance in the show. However, recent news about her involvement may disappoint viewers.

If you watched the Season 2 premiere but didn’t catch the Val Easter egg, it appears when government officials confront Mayor Wilson Fisk in his office. As Matthew Lillard’s character, Mr. Charles, enters, the Attorney General of New York receives a phone call. His demeanor shifts immediately after answering, and if you listen carefully, you’ll hear him address the caller as “Miss de Fontaine.”

Fans naturally expected to see the character Val appear this season after her name was mentioned. However, the show’s creators, Dario Scardapane and Sana Amanat, have confirmed that a full appearance won’t happen. Scardapane explained to The Wrap that they simply wanted to connect Val’s story with the show’s world. While having her actually appear would be ideal, the show already has a large and well-developed cast of characters, making crossovers difficult.
Honestly, while it would’ve been cool to see Valentina Allegra de Fontaine pop up in Echo, I get why Marvel is holding back. Daredevil: Born Again is already shaping up to be packed with great characters, and adding Val just for the sake of it would feel forced. It seems like 2026 is Marvel’s chance to really get things back on track, and they’re wisely focusing on quality over quantity. They learned their lesson about trying to cram too many heroes and villains into one story, and I’m all for that!
Valentina de Fontaine Could Still Influence Daredevil: Born Again Season 2‘s Plot
Though Val doesn’t appear on camera, her influence is central to the main conflict in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. The cargo ship, Northern Star, featured in the first episode was transporting powerful weapons and equipment through a special port controlled by Fisk in Red Hook. This port, operating under an old agreement, allows goods to pass through without standard inspections, making it ideal for secret deliveries.
It’s possible Val is connected to that shipment. Mr. Charles, working in Langley, stepped in to get the missing cargo back and protect Fisk from being held responsible. He’s involved in Val’s world and seems to be hiding evidence that could implicate both Fisk and her.
Val Kyrie has consistently shown a pattern of behavior throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe that makes her involvement in smuggling weapons very likely. As the CIA director in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, she tried to seize Wakanda’s Vibranium. And in Thunderbolts, she secretly funded dangerous experiments to create her own team of superpowered individuals, even attempting to cover up her actions by rebranding them as the New Avengers when faced with scrutiny. This latest scheme fits perfectly with her established methods.
Let me tell you, Val Costas’ meddling is really complicating things for Daredevil. She’s essentially pulled the rug out from under any legal checks on Fisk’s task force – the one meant to hunt down vigilantes. The New York Attorney General was gearing up to challenge them, rightfully concerned about their methods, but Val shut that down. Now, this task force is operating like a rogue military outfit, grabbing people and holding them without any legal process. It’s terrifying, because with Val’s support, Fisk is becoming even more powerful and it’s going to be incredibly difficult for Matt to bring his crimes to light.
Matt’s attack on the ship was meant to reveal Fisk’s involvement, and it almost worked. However, Val’s interference ruined that plan. While the CIA Director may not appear directly, her manipulative actions will be central to the events of Born Again Season 2.
