Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Just Brought Back a Key Jessica Jones Actor (But With a Twist)

The new Daredevil: Born Again series brought back some familiar faces from other Marvel shows that originally aired on Netflix. Marvel seems happy to reuse actors across its different series, and Born Again is no exception. For example, John Benjamin Hickey appeared in a previous Netflix Marvel show and now has a role in Born Again. Similarly, Ruibo Qian, who played Detective Angie Kim in the first two seasons of Daredevil: Born Again, was previously Mei in Jessica Jones. And Andrew Polk, who plays Judge Cooper in Born Again, also appeared as Morty Bennett in an episode of The Punisher.

John Benjamin Hickey returned for the Daredevil: Born Again series, having previously appeared in Season 3 of Jessica Jones. While he was in Jessica Jones as Peter Lyonne, he’s playing a new character, Benjamin Hochberg, in the Disney+ Daredevil series.

In the show starring Krysten Ritter, Lyonne played a role in a story arc focused on Jer Hogarth’s difficulties with cheating and a devastating suicide, which ultimately made her a suspect.

As a huge fan of these shows, I always found Peter Lyonne’s character in Jessica Jones really tragic. It was heartbreaking to see him revealed as someone who’d been stealing money, and then, of course, his suicide was just devastating. It’s wild to me how different that portrayal was from the character he played in Daredevil: Born Again – a complete 180, honestly!

Benjamin Hochberg portrays Hickey in both seasons of Daredevil: Born Again. As the New York City District Attorney, Hickey is loyal to Mayor Wilson Fisk and his corrupt administration. He was heavily involved in the trial of Hector Ayala, also known as White Tiger, and will continue to be a key adversary in the show’s legal storylines, including the case involving Swordsman (Jack Duquesne) in upcoming episodes.

As a huge movie fan, I see Hochberg as a really powerful lawyer who’s not afraid to play dirty to help Mayor Fisk consolidate his control. He’s basically using the legal system to go after anyone who tries to fight back – especially those vigilantes, and it’s putting them in a really tough spot with the courts.

Mahershala Ali previously played the villain Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in Season 1 of Luke Cage. He was the main antagonist of that season before Luke Cage ultimately defeated him. Now, Ali will be taking on a new role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing the character Blade.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is known for playing David Lieberman, also known as Micro, in The Punisher series. He later took on the role of Ben Grimm (The Thing) in both The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really into the new season of Daredevil: Born Again. It picks up right where we left off, with Matt Murdock trying to protect New York from Mayor Fisk, who’s basically turned the city upside down with his task force. It’s a wild ride, and new episodes drop every Tuesday at 9 p.m. Eastern on Disney+.

Daredevil: Born Again’s Recasting Choices Could Be an Ongoing Trend

The casting changes for Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again are interesting because they show how the MCU is bringing back characters from the Defenders series in new stories. It’s a clever way to continue those characters’ journeys without ignoring what happened in the original Netflix shows or needing to rewrite established storylines.

It seems like the main heroes and important allies from the Defenders will reprise their familiar roles, while supporting characters will be given more significant parts in Daredevil: Born Again. This allows for a mix of classic dynamics and fresh storylines.

As a fan, I’m really intrigued by the recasting of John Benjamin Hickey, Andrew Polk, and Ruibo Qian for Daredevil: Born Again. It seems like Marvel might be looking back to the talented actors from the old Netflix Marvel shows to help with the story and fill roles, which is a smart move, in my opinion. It feels like they’re drawing on a proven pool of performers to overcome any creative hurdles.
