Marvel Studios might be intentionally holding back Jessica Jones’s involvement in the early part of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. While Krysten Ritter is set to reprise her role in May 2025 – marking her first new Marvel project since 2019 – it was always uncertain how significant her role would be in the new season.
The first three episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 haven’t included Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. Although the first episode hinted at her presence – Karen Page mentioned someone named “Jess” while discussing a plan to defeat Wilson Fisk with Matt Murdock – Jessica Jones hasn’t actually appeared on screen yet.
Is Jessica Jones Even in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2?

Okay, so we still don’t have a firm date for Jessica Jones to come back to the MCU, but I’m definitely seeing her! They’ve actually used at least three scenes with Krysten Ritter as Jessica in the trailers, which pretty much confirms she is going to be in the show. And it’s been a few months since those first pictures of her in that iconic black leather jacket started circulating online – it’s good to know they weren’t just teasing us!
According to Dario Scardapane, the showrunner for Born Again, Jessica Jones was always planned to appear – she was included in his initial idea for the show when he first joined the production. Now that Wilson Fisk has made vigilantism illegal, Jessica is the one being pursued, and will be forced into hiding. The series will reveal what she’s been doing during her time away.
I always planned to bring Jessica Jones into the show, even when I first started working on Season 1. She’s a vital part of this universe. With Wilson Fisk cracking down on vigilantes, there are only three who operate openly without masks, and Jessica is one of them. So, it’s interesting to explore what happens when she’s the one being targeted. Our story picks up seven years after the end of her Netflix series, and we’re showing those years as they happened. Season 2 will reveal what Jessica has been up to during that time.
Jessica Jones last appeared on screen in the third season of her Netflix series in 2019, which was connected to the larger ‘Defenders’ storyline. The season concluded with Jessica bringing her close friend, Trish Walker, to the Raft, a high-security prison for superpowered criminals, due to her own vigilante actions. Jessica then attempted to escape to Mexico, but was stopped by the voice of her former tormentor, Kilgrave (played by David Tennant), who urged her to abandon everyone. Hearing his voice, Jessica ultimately decided against leaving and remained in New York.
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is now available on Disney+, marking the second live-action release in Marvel’s Phase 6. The show stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Vincent D’Onofrio, Margarita Levieva, and Tony Dalton, and follows Matt Murdock and Karen Page as they go on the run and plot to defeat Wilson Fisk, who has become the mayor of New York City. The first three episodes are currently streaming, with new episodes released every Tuesday at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET.
When To Expect Jessica Jones’ Debut in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

Jessica Jones will be back in the Disney+ series Born Again soon. Krysten Ritter, who plays Jessica Jones, has been confirmed to appear in Episode 6, which will be available to stream on Tuesday, April 21st. Photos released by Marvel show her character will have a scene with Matt Murdock (Daredevil) on a rooftop in that episode.
People are wondering what Jessica has been doing for the past seven years, and also why her part in the current season appears to be less significant than anticipated.
One reason for this decision could be the show’s budget. A well-known star like Ritter would have been a significant expense, especially with other high-profile actors like Cox and D’Onofrio already cast. Also, it’s unclear what role she was originally intended to play, as the series underwent substantial changes during development to better fit with existing Netflix content.
You know, I think limiting Jessica to just a couple of episodes this season might actually be a smart move. It’ll make her appearances feel more special, and build anticipation for when she becomes a regular, which they’re hinting at for next season. If they really lean into making her a key player in Season 2, and especially if she’s involved in some of the bigger, more exciting stuff happening this year, it’ll make her introduction so much more impactful and memorable. I’m really hoping they give her a chance to shine!
Ritter’s character could have a similar effect on the show as Jon Bernthal’s Punisher did – he appeared briefly in an early episode and then played a key part in the season’s ending. Now, fans are eager to learn how Jessica Jones will fit into this new, more dangerous storyline and what role she’ll play.
