What do we know about the Echo episode of Daredevil: Born Again?

In a recent interview with IGN, Jesse Wigutow, the writer of Daredevil: Born Again, revealed that the show almost included a low-budget episode focusing on Echo and The Punisher. For viewers who may not know, a “bottle episode” is a TV episode made with a small budget and limited characters.

Wigutow explained that the episode would primarily center around the introduction of Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher into the Daredevil universe, and a noteworthy, though not romantic, encounter between him and Echo. He described their interaction as an “interesting night.”

According to Wigutow, the initial idea was to create a self-contained episode featuring the Punisher entering the world of Daredevil. He explained that this concept was discussed two or three years ago, and he later became involved with developing it. The episode would have centered around the Punisher and Echo sharing a noteworthy evening-not a romantic one, but one that would have been compelling from a storytelling perspective.

Wigutow explained the concept ultimately “didn’t move forward,” but it might be revisited later if the circumstances are favorable.

“It’s possible it will return,” Wigutow stated. “However, the project’s progress hasn’t been entirely straightforward, and it originated as part of a previous concept.”

Currently, details about Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 are limited. The upcoming season will continue the story from where Season 1 left off. There’s also talk that Mike Colter, who played Luke Cage, and Finn Jones, known as Iron Fist, might return, potentially bringing The Defenders back together.

Besides Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Krysten Ritter (who was already confirmed), Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again will feature a cast including Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter/Bullseye, Nikki M. James as Kirsten McDuffie, Genneya Walton as BB Urich, Clark Johnson as Cherry, Michael Gandolfini as Daniel Blake, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, Matthew Lillard, and other talented actors.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is expected to premiere on Disney+ in March 2026.
