‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Producer Calls Season 2 “Liberating”

The new Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, officially brings Charlie Cox’s Daredevil into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although it features returning actors like Vincent D’Onofrio and Deborah Ann Woll from the previous Netflix series, the show was initially planned as a fresh start. During production of the first season, however, those plans changed, leading to significant revisions, reshoots, and a new story direction.

Originally, Daredevil: Born Again was intended to be a legal drama, but the show evolved into the version that critics and viewers enjoyed. Producer Sana Amanat explained to Empire that this freedom was a welcome change. Unlike the challenges of launching the first season, the creative team felt they could explore any direction they chose for the second season, which Amanat described as “liberating.” They weren’t held back by the initial hurdles and could fully realize their vision.

Production on Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again finished in July, and it’s expected to be released on Disney+ in 2026. Although details are still being kept secret, a producer hinted that the season will explore Kingpin’s motivations, as portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio.

As a critic, I keep circling back to Fisk. The show really digs into a fascinating question: what happens when a villain achieves everything they’ve ever craved? Does finally getting that ultimate prize actually satisfy someone with an insatiable hunger, or does their grip tighten, ultimately destroying what they’ve worked so hard to obtain? It’s a compelling exploration of power and self-destruction, and honestly, it’s the most interesting part of the whole story.

Now that filming is finished on season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, we’re learning more about the story. It seems Matt Murdock will be building a team of heroes to oppose Kingpin’s plan to control the city, which he’s framing as a community safety program. The season will pick up after Murdock was seriously hurt and pushed to his limits, and he’s ready to fight back against Kingpin’s growing power.

In addition to Bryan Cranston as Cox, season two will bring back familiar faces like Vincent D’Onofrio, Margarita Levieva, and Wilson Bethel. Many viewers are especially excited to see more of Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, after his recent solo series and cameo in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Kristen Ritter will also return as Jessica Jones, a character she originally portrayed in the Netflix series of the same name. Amanat recently discussed Ritter’s involvement with Empire magazine.

Honestly, what excites me most about her return is how personal it feels. She just brings this incredible balance to the show – Daredevil can get so intense and heavy, and she injects this much-needed energy and wit that really cuts through all the drama in a really entertaining way. It just feels fresh!

Fans have been speculating about whether other heroes from the old Netflix Marvel shows might reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Finn Jones (who played Iron Fist) and Mike Coulter (Luke Cage) as potential candidates. The upcoming series, Daredevil: Born Again, is expected to be significantly grittier and darker than most MCU projects, offering a unique and complex portrayal of Matt Murdock and a fresh direction for the franchise.
