The Star Wars films are in a league of their own. For generations, people have grown up loving the story set in that distant galaxy (now available on Disney+), and the fans are incredibly dedicated. So, when news came out about a new Star Wars trilogy—including a film featuring Daisy Ridley as Rey—fans were thrilled. However, I’m a little worried about that upcoming movie after seeing Ridley’s performance in her latest role.
It’s been a while since a Star Wars movie was in theaters, with The Rise of Skywalker being the last one. That will change in May with the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu. While a new movie starring Rey was announced in 2023, recent reports indicate it hasn’t started filming yet. It’s unclear if the project will move forward, leaving fans wondering if they’ll ever see it on the big screen.

Disney+ offers access to the entire Star Wars saga, featuring Daisy Ridley as Rey. You can start streaming with ads for as little as $11.99 per month. For an ad-free experience, it’s $18.99 monthly, or you can save 16% by paying $189.99 for a full year. See the deal here.
I realize actors are often busy, so I might be overreacting, but it’s worrying that there’s still no firm release plan for the next Star Wars movie, especially with how excited fans are. It’s also a bit strange that The Mandalorian and Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter are coming out before the new trilogy the studio already announced.
Although we’re optimistic about the other Star Wars projects, the silence surrounding the Rey movie is disappointing. I’m eager to see Daisy Ridley’s character rebuild the Jedi Order, and I’d love to see Finn training as a Jedi under her. Hopefully, this movie will start making progress soon.

Recently, Star Wars fans have become very excited about the possibility of a sequel to The Rise of Skywalker. The internet exploded with news that Adam Driver had proposed a Kylo Ren film, to be directed by Steven Soderbergh and called The Hunt for Ben Solo. Since then, fans have been actively petitioning the studio to reconsider, even going as far as flying a plane over Disney headquarters to ask them to revive the project.
It’s obvious fans want to see more stories set after The Rise of Skywalker, especially those that continue the adventures of the characters we already know. I’m excited about Star Wars doing standalone films again, but the idea of Rey training as a Jedi Master is just too promising to ignore.
Ridley’s new role in The Good Samaritan seems promising, given that director Pierre Morel is known for action movies like Peppermint and Taken. Plus, the script is being written by Matthew Ian Cirulnick, who also wrote Rambo: First Blood.
A new Star Wars movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled for release on May 22, 2026. Hopefully, the planned film starring Rey will also be made.
