Daisy Ridley Joins Johnny Depp In Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol Adaptation

Daisy Ridley, known for her role in the recent Star Wars trilogy beginning with The Force Awakens in 2015, is now part of the cast for an upcoming film starring Johnny Depp. The movie will be based on a classic fantasy story.

The actress has a lot of exciting projects coming up, including the films Mind Fall and The Last Resort. She’s also returning as Rey in a new Star Wars movie – marking the first time she’ll play the character outside of the original Skywalker story. And now, she’s added another film to her packed schedule.

According to Deadline, she’s been cast in a fresh take on Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol. The movie, titled Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, is scheduled to come out on November 13, 2026.

The film boasts a star-studded cast featuring Johnny Depp, Rupert Grint, Sam Claflin, Charlie Murphy, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Andrea Riseborough, Ian McKellan, and Tramell Tillman.

In this upcoming Paramount production, Johnny Deep will star as Ebenezer Scrooge, and Rupert Grint is set to play Bob Crachit. The character Ridley will portray hasn’t been announced yet.

Ti West will direct a new film adaptation of A Christmas Carol, titled Ebenezer. Nathaniel Halpern wrote the screenplay, and Emma Watts, Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, Adam Bohling, and David Reid will produce the movie.

Paramount isn’t alone in revisiting A Christmas Carol on the big screen. Warner Bros. also has a new adaptation planned, revealed back in June. Robert Eggers, the director of Nosferatu, will helm the project, and Willem Dafoe is set to play Ebenezer Scrooge.

Since it was first published in 1843, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol has been retold in many different ways. Some popular adaptations include the 1970 musical film Scrooge, the animated Mickey’s Christmas Carol from 1983, the 1988 comedy Scrooged, The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992), a 1999 TV movie, and the 2009 animated film using performance capture technology.

Despite recent personal issues dominating the news, Johnny Depp continues to work in film, even after losing his role in the Fantastic Beasts series. He’s known for many classic movies, including A Nightmare on Elm Street, Edward Scissorhands, the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd.

He’s now taking on the famous role of Ebenezer Scrooge, a character from literature who’s been portrayed by many well-known actors, including Jim Carrey, Michael Caine, Patrick Stewart, Kelsey Grammer, Bill Murray, and Tim Curry.

This stage adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol tells the familiar story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a famously grumpy miser who says “Bah humbug!” Scrooge is shown visions of his past, present, and future by a series of ghosts, helping him realize his mistakes and inspiring him to change his ways.

Daisy Ridley is currently busy with other film projects. Although this might postpone her potential return to the Star Wars franchise, she remains in high demand as an actress.

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol will be released in theaters on Friday, November 13, 2026.
