Crunchyroll’s 100% Rated Anime Series Finally Returns In New Trailer Ahead Of Imminent Season 2 Release

As a huge anime fan, I was so excited to finally get a glimpse of Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End! It’s been over two years since the first season dropped, and honestly, it’s become one of my all-time favorites. It’s a fantastic fantasy series that’s been getting incredible reviews – it even has a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and is now available on Netflix here in the US, which is great!

Since it first aired, Frieren has become incredibly popular with anime fans. It’s currently the highest-rated anime of all time on MyAnimeList, making the second season highly anticipated. Everyone is eager to see if Frieren Season 2, set to release on January 16th, 2026, can match the success of its first season.

Fans recently got a glimpse of Frieren Season 2 with the release of its first official trailer. The almost two-minute preview shows Frieren and her old adventuring companions years after their glory days.

Okay, I just got a first look at Season 2, and let me tell you, it’s promising! We’re talking seriously impressive fantasy action, and the animation from Madhouse is absolutely gorgeous – they’re really delivering on the visual spectacle. But what I loved about the show when it first came out in 2023 was its heart, and thankfully, that emotional core seems to be very much still present.

The anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End centers on Frieren, an elf who appears to never age. The story begins decades after she and her companions defeated the Demon King. When they reunite, Frieren discovers that while she hasn’t changed, her human friends have grown old, leading her to reflect on the meaning of time and connection.

The anime Frieren, based on the manga by Kanehito Yamada, has been highly praised for its heartwarming story, endearing characters, and stunning visuals.

What Will Happen in Frieren Season 2?

The first trailer for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 doesn’t reveal too much. 

Last season, Frieren mourned the loss of several friends, realizing they had all aged while she remained relatively young. Unhappy that she hadn’t known them well enough during their lives, she embarked on a journey to understand time and what it means to be human.

Frieren and her companions set off towards Ende, the farthest northern region of the continent. There, they intend to confront the current Demon King in another battle.

The first season ended right in the middle of the story arc about the First-Class Mage Exam. In this part of the overall Frieren story, the main character, Frieren, and her energetic apprentice, Fern, are continuing their journey to finish the exam.

Frieren doesn’t pass her mage exam, but Fern impresses the examiner, Serie, and earns the rank of First Class Mage. After the exam, the group continues traveling north.

The next season will probably begin just before the group resumes their travels, and they’ll face new dangers along the way, including both people and creatures.
