The anime Zombie Land Saga, created by studio MAPPA, first aired in 2018 and immediately gained a following. The show centers around a group of seven zombie idols – legendary performers from different times brought back to life in the future by Kotaro Tatsumi. Tatsumi is determined to revitalize the Saga Prefecture, a region that has fallen on hard times.
When it first came out, Zombie Land Saga was a hit with both viewers and critics. Currently, it has a rating of 7.1/10 on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), based on over 1,700 reviews. A second season, Zombie Land Saga Revenge, followed in 2021, offering fans another 12 episodes of zombie idol adventures. Like the original, Zombie Land Saga Revenge was also well-received by both critics and audiences.
The newest installment in the Zombie Land Saga franchise, Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise, came out in Japan in October 2025 and is now making its debut in North American theaters. Konosuke Uda, Takafumi Ushida, and Takeru Sato directed the film, with a screenplay by Shigeru Murakoshi. The original voice actors – including Mamoru Miyano, Kaede Hondo, Asami Tano, Risa Taneda, Maki Kawase, Rika Kinugawa, Minami Tanaka, and Kotono Mitsuishi – all return to play their characters from the series.
The new movie, Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise, from studio MAPPA, kicks off with an alien invasion of Saga City, just as the Saga EXPO is about to begin. The fate of the world now rests on the shoulders of the main characters. Yumeginga Paradise is already receiving fantastic reviews, even surpassing the praise earned by both seasons of the original Zombie Land Saga anime.
The movie currently has a rating of 8.4 out of 10 on IMDb, based on 34 reviews. When it opened in Japan, Yumeginga Paradise was the eighth highest-grossing film that weekend, despite competing with the newly released Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc.
Crunchyroll will release Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise in U.S. and Canadian theaters on January 19, 2026. This follows a string of successful theatrical releases from the company, including both new movies and compilations of existing series. Other recent releases include Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle (September 2025), Sink Your Teeth: A Tokyo Ghoul Celebration (July 2025), Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon (April 2025), OVERLORD: The Sacred Kingdom (November 2024), and *Solo Leveling -ReAwakening (December 2024).
