Criminal Minds: Evolution” Season 3 has concluded, but don’t fret! Although there won’t be any fresh episodes from the Paramount+ revival on the 2025 TV lineup, there’s a silver lining. The show has been renewed for Season 4, ensuring that our beloved Behavioral Analysis Unit will embark on more thrilling escapades in due time. And guess who’s joining them? Zach Gilford’s character, Elias Voit, is making a comeback! Following the hints dropped by showrunner Erica Messer about Elias’ future, I can hardly wait for what she has in store for us.
Ever since the debut of Evolution, Voit has been stirring up issues within the team. Even though Season 3 reverted back to the weekly format for unsolved cases, Voit persisted and continued to be a presence. He’s the only recurring unsub who has appeared in three consecutive seasons, whether he’s working with or against the FBI. Viewers have grown to both despise and admire his character, making him someone they love to hate and perhaps even hate to love. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Messer revealed some insight into Voit’s role in Season 4:
As our discussions progressed, we felt there was an additional season left to delve into fresh topics with him and the team. In each episode of season 19, you’ll find him present. Compared to his role in season 17, he is detained once more, but in a far distinct manner. He will serve as a valuable asset for us this time around.
In other words, the Executive Producer confirmed that Voit will appear in every episode of Season 4, which is definitely a significant shift! This becomes even more noteworthy when you recall his abilities from Season 3, despite being hospitalized. Fans witnessed him aiding the BAU during the Hannibal Lecter storyline while he was behind bars. However, it seems like his role might evolve in future episodes.
What’s intriguing is that the team has a good understanding of how to handle Voit and provoke him effectively. As for what we can anticipate regarding Voit in Season 4, Messer hinted at his character growth by mentioning a well-known serial killer, suggesting more insight into Voit’s future storyline.
The path taken by this character was one of anonymity; people were unaware that he was a cold-blooded killer. He meticulously concealed his darkest secrets underground. In many ways, he resembles Ted Bundy, attracting unwanted attention as a result. Presently, Voit is in custody and gaining notoriety, almost like a celebrity.
By now, viewers are likely well-acquainted with Voit’s warped personality and deceitful ways, given his extensive history of heinous acts. The BAU currently has him under their control, but unraveling the numerous secrets he conceals, such as information about this entire serial killer network, won’t be a simple task. Yet, with Voit set to appear in every episode next season, the writers will have ample opportunity to delve deeply into his complex character, an aspect that I find intriguing.

I was thrilled to dive back into the world of Criminal Minds: Evolution, the 19th season overall, as production commenced in May. Many familiar faces were there, ready to continue our crime-fighting journey. Regarding any returning guest stars, it might be a challenge, much like Messer hinted at. Locking down actors months ahead can be tricky business, especially when their schedules are unpredictable. As the producer put it, it’s tough to craft stories for a specific character, played by a major actor, months in advance without knowing their availability during filming.
Although we haven’t received a confirmed premiere date yet for Season 4 of “Criminal Minds: Evolution”, I’m content knowing that Elias Voit’s character is set to expand. In the interim, enthusiasts can enjoy streaming all seasons of “Criminal Minds” – including “Evolution” – by subscribing to Paramount+ at present.
