Criminal Minds Becomes a Hit on Paramount+ in the US Ahead of Season 19

Crime and police shows are incredibly popular, and Criminal Minds is a standout in the genre. Although the original series ended in 2020 after fifteen seasons, it returned thanks to fan demand with a new installment called Criminal Minds: Evolution. Now, the show is experiencing renewed success with a fresh season on Paramount+.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the streaming charts, and Criminal Minds is still a huge draw for viewers! Here in the US, it’s currently the tenth most-watched series on Paramount+. But it’s even more popular overseas – it hit number two in France and number three in Italy. And for those of you in places like Singapore, you can find it on Disney+, where it’s consistently in the top ten, currently at number nine. It’s clear this show has a dedicated international fanbase!

Criminal Minds Is an Addictive Police Procedural Drama

Criminal Minds is a captivating show centered around a team of FBI profilers who investigate horrifying crimes. The Behavioral Analysis Unit, or BAU, assists local law enforcement with cases involving serial killers, missing children, terrorism, and other serious threats. Sometimes, these investigations can hit close to home for the agents involved.

As a huge fan of Criminal Minds, I’ve always been gripped by the episodes where the serial killers actually target one of the BAU team. It started with the Fisher King, who really made things personal, and then continued with villains like the one who went after Hotch. But Mr. Scratch? He took it to a whole new level of terrifying! The show has definitely given us some seriously scary villains and way too many close calls!

The cast of Criminal Minds has evolved throughout its run. While original members like Mandy Patinkin, Thomas Gibson, Lola Glaudini, Shemar Moore, and Matthew Gray Gubler have moved on, the show has welcomed new faces, such as Paget Brewster, demonstrating the show’s ability to refresh and reinvent its team.

As a huge fan of the Criminal Minds franchise, I was thrilled to see so many familiar faces back for Criminal Minds: Evolution! Joe Mantegna is still fantastic as David Rossi, and it’s great to have A.J. Cook as JJ, Kirsten Vangsness as Garcia, Aisha Tyler as Tara Lewis, Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez, and Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss all returning. Plus, the show did a good job of mixing in some new and recurring characters, which kept things fresh.

The latest season of Criminal Minds: Evolution welcomed some new actors to the team. RJ Hatanaka joined the main cast as Tyler Green, and Aimee Garcia (from Lucifer) appeared in a recurring role as Dr. Julia Ochoa. Zach Gilford also joined the cast.

Criminal Minds Remains a Beloved Police Procedural

First airing in 2005, Criminal Minds remains popular with audiences even today. The show boasts a strong 8.1 rating on IMDb, based on over 238,000 reviews, demonstrating its enduring appeal. Despite the challenge of maintaining viewership over time, Criminal Minds: Evolution confirmed the series still has a dedicated fanbase.

Episodes from Season 18 of Criminal Minds are receiving high praise on IMDb, with “Time to Say Goodbye” (Episode 3) earning the highest rating of the season at 8.2. This demonstrates the show continues to deliver the quality and storytelling that fans enjoy, which is a significant accomplishment.

The next season of Criminal Minds: Evolution (Season 19, or Season 4) started filming in May 2025. While there’s no confirmed release date, fans are revisiting the original Criminal Minds series, and many new viewers are discovering it, making the show a popular streaming choice on Paramount+.
