A recent announcement indicates that season two of Creature Commandos will challenge a core principle of the show. James Gunn’s popular animated series successfully launched the DC Universe last year. The show, geared towards mature audiences, introduced viewers to a quirky team of unconventional heroes who must team up to defeat the evil Princess Ilana Rostovic.
This series offered a fresh take on the DC Universe by telling the story through the eyes of its villains, a departure from the traditional focus on heroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Instead, it highlighted some of DC’s more obscure antagonists, including Bride, G.I. Robot, and Doctor Phosphorus.
The show intentionally avoided featuring major DC heroes in important roles, but that’s about to change. According to Nexus Point News, Captain Atom will play a key part in the second season of Creature Commandos.

While details about Captain Atom’s part in the show are still under wraps, sources say he’ll have a significant role. This marks the first time a major DC superhero will be a core cast member, as previous seasons featured only quick cameos from heroes as fun nods to fans. These earlier appearances weren’t meant to be substantial parts of the story.
I’m hearing good things about Season 2 of Creature Commandos – it’s currently in production at DC Studios. Interestingly, James Gunn, who created the series, won’t be handling the writing directly this time around. He’s taking on more of a supervisory role, leading a team of writers. As for when we can actually see it? DC is keeping that close to the vest, but the buzz is that 2026 isn’t out of the question. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more!
Every Superhero Who Appeared in Creature Commandos Season 1
Superman

A version of Superman, likely played by David Corenswet, appeared in the first season of Creature Commandos before his own movie comes out in 2025. He showed up in a disturbing vision of the future, created by Circe’s magic, impaled on a spear. This scene also featured over a dozen other DC heroes.
Batman

Batman was among the heroes seen as deceased in Circe’s vision during Season 1, but he also briefly appeared in a scene from Creature Commandos. An episode featured a glimpse of the Dark Knight of Gotham silhouetted against a lightning storm, offering fans their first look at his portrayal within the DCU.
Hawkgirl

In a vision from Season 1 of Circe, Isabela Merced’s character, Hawkgirl, appeared to be dead, displayed on a pike with other members of the Justice Gang. Fortunately, fans didn’t have to worry for long – she officially joined the DC Universe a few months later in James Gunn’s Superman.
Mister Terrific

Even the powerful and intelligent Mister Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi, couldn’t survive the disastrous events in Season 1 of Creature Commandos. He appeared briefly in the animated series as part of a vision created by Circe, and was tragically impaled by a large spike, staining his iconic leather jacket with blood.
Green Lantern

Nathan Fillion played Guy Gardner in Season 1 of Creature Commandos, though he didn’t have much screen time. Like the other heroes, he attempted to stop Gorilla Grodd and Princess Ilana Rostovic, but was unsuccessful and ultimately met a grim fate, displayed on pikes at the world’s end.
Supergirl

Milly Alcock will star as Supergirl in a major DC Studios film next summer. Before that, she made a brief appearance in Season 1 of Creature Commandos. In a vision shown by the character Circe, Supergirl was seen lifeless, hinting that Superman isn’t the only hero who might struggle against Princess Ilana Rostovic.
Peacemaker

John Cena’s character, Peacemaker, is currently one of the few DC Universe heroes with his own standalone series that’s part of the larger connected story. In the second season of Peacemaker, he traveled through different realities, and he also briefly appeared in a vision created by the villain Circe.
Vigilante

Adrian Chase, also known as Vigilante, quickly became a popular character in James Gunn’s DC universe after appearing in Season 1 of Peacemaker. Freddie Stroma’s portrayal of the cheerfully optimistic superhero made him instantly likable, which made his shocking death in Season 1 of Creature Commandos particularly upsetting for fans.
Blue Beetle

Okay, so let’s talk about Creature Commandos. It’s interesting because these first episodes actually aren’t the first time we’ve seen Xolo Maridueña as Blue Beetle! If you remember him from the movie, he shows up here too, though it’s a bit of a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment. He’s part of a future vision shown in the series, but honestly, it’s a pretty grim scene – he’s… well, let’s just say impaled on a pike. It’s a strange way to connect the DC universe, but it definitely sets a tone!
Wonder Woman

Even though Wonder Woman hasn’t been officially cast in the DCU yet, she actually appeared in the first season of Creature Commandos. She also briefly appears in a vision of the future, shown alongside other heroes who have fallen in battle.
Booster Gold

While Booster Gold will eventually headline his own DC Universe project, fans have already gotten glimpses of the character in shows like Creature Commandos. He also appeared in a vision seen by Circe, showcasing his personality as a witty and somewhat arrogant hero from the future.
Starfire

It can be tricky to figure out who some of the background characters in Creature Commandos are, but Starfire stands out with her signature purple outfit. Best known as a member of the Teen Titans, she was once an alien princess who gained energy powers after being subjected to experiments as a child.
Robin

In a glimpse of the apocalypse shown in Creature Commandos, Robin appears impaled on a spike. It’s not immediately obvious which version of the character this is, but with Damian Wayne expected to be important in the upcoming Brave and the Bold movie, it’s likely that’s who we’re seeing.
Flash

Despite being incredibly fast, the Flash couldn’t avoid defeat in Season 1 of Creature Commandos. Wally West, who plays the Flash, ends up on the losing side of the conflict against Ilana Rostovic and her Amethyst Knights.
