Could The Suicide Squad’s Ratcatcher Return In The DCU? Daniela Melchior Shares Her Thoughts

Superhero movies remain incredibly popular, and James Gunn, co-CEO of DC, has been developing a new interconnected universe for DC. The first group of projects, called “Gods and Monsters,” has everyone wondering what his plans are for future DC films. Fans are especially curious if actors from the previous DC Universe will return, including Daniela Melchior, who played Ratcatcher II in The Suicide Squad. So, will she be back? Here’s what the actress has to say.

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad—available on HBO Max—essentially restarted the movie series with a fresh, R-rated take. Many of the actors from that film, particularly those who were also in Season 2 of Peacemaker, have continued on in the new DC Universe. When ScreenRant asked actress Daniela Melchior if she might reprise her role, she responded:

I’m not sure what the future holds, but I’d really like to revisit that role. I’ve changed a lot, both personally and as an artist, and it would be fascinating to see if the director, James Gunn, would be interested in exploring a more mature take on Ratcatcher. I try to avoid dwelling on it too much, though, because it makes me a little sad.

It appears the actress from Fast X is hoping to reprise her role as Ratcatcher in the new DC Universe. She’s eager to return, even suggesting she’d refine her character’s accent, but she’s also trying to manage her expectations. However, given that James Gunn has directed her in two projects already, it’s not an unlikely possibility. Plus, elements from The Suicide Squad are still considered part of the DCU’s established story.

Daniela Melchior was fantastic in both The Suicide Squad and had a small role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (available on Disney+). Director James Gunn was so impressed with her work that he brought her over from DC to Marvel, and fans might see them collaborate again on a future project involving her character, Ratcatcher II.

HBO Max offers streaming access to DC Comics content – including the DCU, DCEU, and classic titles – as well as thousands of movies, shows, and documentaries. Plans begin at $10.99 per month (with ads). See the deal here.

Initially, the announced DCU plans didn’t include another Suicide Squad movie. However, several actors from the first film have already reappeared in the new shared universe through the Peacemaker series. This makes a sequel plausible, especially since Ratcatcher survived the events in Corto Maltese.

Although it doesn’t look like Melchior will be returning to her role in the near future, there are still chances for her to appear in upcoming DC projects. One possibility is the new Amanda Waller series, which will feature Viola Davis reprising her role. The end of Peacemaker Season 2 also hinted at metahumans being captured and sent to a place called Salvation, so she could potentially be a prisoner there with John Cena’s character.

You can watch The Suicide Squad on HBO Max now. The next DC film coming to theaters is Supergirl, which will be released on June 26th as part of the 2026 movie schedule.
