Clayface’s Robert Pattinson-Like Bat Symbol Gets Clarification From James Gunn

James Gunn addressed fan speculation about a Batman symbol seen on the set of the upcoming DCU movie, Clayface. A photo of the symbol appeared online, and people noticed it resembled the one from Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, leading to questions about whether Matt Reeves’ Batman universe will now be connected to the broader DCU.

James Gunn comments on Clayface set photo’s Bat symbol

James Gunn addressed a fan question on Threads about a photo from the set of *The Batman Part II* that seems to show the Bat symbol. Many viewers think this symbol is identical to the one used in the previous *Batman* film.

Someone on Threads asked James Gunn if a Bat symbol appearing on set meant the DC Universe and ‘The Batman’ crime saga were combining. Gunn replied that while the trash can the symbol was on came from the set, he doubts the art department placed the bat there. He added that even if they did, it wasn’t something he approved, as he doesn’t have time to review every detail of the set.

James Gunn stated he didn’t authorize the Batman symbol to be put on a trash can during filming of the Clayface scenes. Despite this, fans are still hoping to see Robert Pattinson’s Batman appear in the larger DC Universe. It’s important to remember that ‘The Batman’ and related projects are considered separate from the main DC Universe storyline, falling under the DC Elseworlds label.

James Watkins is directing “Clayface,” which will be the third film in the new DC Universe, following “Superman” and the upcoming “Supergirl.” The movie centers on the villain Clayface and is scheduled to be released in US theaters on September 11, 2026.

The sequel to The Batman is currently scheduled for release on October 1, 2027. While James Gunn and his team are working on the film, titled The Brave and the Bold, they haven’t yet announced who will be playing Batman in the new DC Universe.
