Clayface Set Photos Tease Film’s Logo & Joker Easter Egg in DCU

Fresh images and clips emerging from the filming of ‘Clayface’ suggest the forthcoming DC Universe film may feature its logo and a hidden reference to ‘The Joker’. Notably, ‘Clayface’ is planned as the third DCU production following Superman and Supergirl. The movie is being directed by James Watkins (known for ‘Speak No Evil’) from a script penned by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini.

Clayface set photos hint at movie’s logo, Joker easter egg

The filming for Clayface started in late August 2025, and since then, images and video snippets from the production site in Liverpool have been shared on social media. Some of these posts include shots of the clapperboard, offering a glimpse into what the movie’s logo might look like.

A single image shows “The Jokers” spray-painted tag on a building’s wall, suggesting that the criminal mastermind known as the Crown Prince of Crime is present within the universe of DC Comics.

The DC Universe represents a fresh start for the collection of stories centered on DC characters, previously known as the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). James Gunn and Peter Safran have been appointed as co-managers of this new universe. Back in January 2021, director Flanagan expressed his desire to create a project about Clayface. At that time, the DCU didn’t exist yet. In March 2023, following Gunn and Safran’s announcement of the DCU lineup, it was said that Flanagan pitched a Clayface movie to them. The character first appeared in the animated series Creature Commandos, with voice talents provided by Alan Tudyk. More recently, Tom Rhys Harries (White Lines) has been added to the cast as the main character. He is reportedly portraying the version of Clayface known as Matt Hagen. Naomi Ackie is also part of the cast.

Clayface is a chilling body-horror narrative. Its tagline goes, “A spine-tingling Hollywood horror story revolving around a struggling actor who uses an elixir to maintain his career, but discovers that he can morph his facial features and structure, transforming into a living sculpture of clay.

Clayface debuts in U.S. theaters on September 11, 2026.
