Chris Pratt’s space sci-fi film is preparing to blast off and land on Netflix.
Chris Pratt first gained popularity playing the charming Andy Dwyer on the TV show Parks and Recreation (2009–2015). He’s since become a major movie star, known for roles like Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy films (2014–2023) and Owen Grady in the Jurassic World series (2015–2022). He’s also starred in action movies like The Magnificent Seven (2016) and The Tomorrow War (2021), and now another one of his science fiction films is coming to streaming services.
Okay, movie fans, get ready! Passengers, that sci-fi flick with Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, is finally hitting Netflix in just two weeks! I remember seeing it in theaters about a decade ago, and it’s still a really cool concept. Basically, they play passengers on this massive spaceship headed to a new planet, but something goes wrong and they wake up 90 years too early during the 120-year journey. It’s directed by Morten Tyldum, and it’s a pretty wild ride!
The movie Passengers, which was originally released in theaters in 2016, will be available to stream on Netflix starting June 1st. It’s currently showing on STARZ and can also be rented or purchased on platforms like Prime Video for as little as $3.99.
In addition to stars Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, the movie features a talented cast including Michael Sheen, Laurence Fishburne, Andy Garcia, Julee Cerda, and Aurora Perrineau. Several voice actors also contribute to the film, including Emma Clarke, Chris Edgerly, Matt Corboy, Fred Melamed, and Jon Spaihts, who also penned the screenplay.
The movie Passengers got a mixed reaction from critics, earning a low 30% score on Rotten Tomatoes. While many praised the chemistry between Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, they generally agreed that strong performances couldn’t overcome the movie’s weak plot.
Viewers generally liked the movie, giving it a 63% approval rating. It earned $303.1 million in theaters, which is potentially a profitable result considering its estimated production cost of $110 to $150 million. The film also received two Academy Award nominations at the 89th Oscars: one for Best Original Score and another for Best Production Design.
Even ten years after it was released, the movie Passengers still sparks a lot of discussion, mainly because of its ending and how realistically it depicts space travel. But with it becoming available on Netflix in just two weeks, viewers will have a chance to re-watch it, see it for the first time, and decide what they think.
