Chris Pratt was noticeably missing from the recent Doomsday event, but he’s eager to return as Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Pratt revealed he’s already shared his ideas with Marvel. He believes his vision for the character is “fantastic” and would be a great addition to future films.

He also said he’s happy to help in any way he can to ensure the company has great stories for the next decade.
Directing the Guardians On Screen and Off
Chris Pratt first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and he dramatically changed his body for the role of Star-Lord. Since then, he’s moved beyond comedy, becoming a leading action star in films like the Jurassic World series, the Prime Video show The Terminal List, and the recent thriller Mercy.
As a huge Marvel fan, I was really curious about Chris Pratt’s future with the MCU after seeing him as Peter Quill in six movies, including the recent Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. When asked directly if he knew what Marvel had planned for him, he gave a really interesting answer. He paused for a moment, then said, basically, he has some idea, but it’s not completely clear. It definitely sounds like his time as Star-Lord might not be over just yet!

Even if Star-Lord were to assemble a new team following the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the main challenge is finding a director. James Gunn, who directed all three Guardians films, now leads DC Studios, a competitor to Marvel. As producer Louis D’Esposito pointed out, Gunn is too busy to return to the Guardians franchise.
Chris Pratt’s comments might surprise some people. He explained that Marvel Studios tends to move forward cautiously, making decisions gradually. He quickly added that he’s willing to work on whatever projects they have planned. While Pratt admitted he’d love to see James Gunn return as director, he doesn’t think it’s likely. He said they would need to find a skilled director to take on the project, and he’s confident they will.
Ultimately, any pitch for Star-Lord’s return will center around the character and his story.
The Next 10 Years
The ending of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 saw Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora definitively move on, which Chris Horowitz described as a ‘clear exit.’ Chris Pratt believes the heartbreaking end to her relationship with Quill creates potential for future stories. He explained that Quill now carries that trauma and is free from the commitments of family and a relationship, allowing him to truly discover who he is and define his own path.

While other Marvel actors weren’t asked to be in Doomsday, Chris Pratt appears to still have a good relationship with Disney. It’s very likely he’ll return to the MCU, either in Doomsday or the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars. Pratt couldn’t share details about his character’s future because those films will shape Star-Lord’s storyline. However, Pratt hopes to continue playing Star-Lord in the MCU for another ten years.
