Chris Hemsworth & Mark Ruffalo’s Crime 101 Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed

Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo are known for teaming up as Avengers to save the world. Their new movie takes a different turn, putting them in a crime thriller with a completely new kind of relationship.

The new movie Crime 101 is getting rave reviews! It recently launched with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 24 critic reviews. While that score may shift as more reviews come in, the early response suggests it’s a must-see for fans of crime films. An audience score isn’t available yet, as the movie doesn’t open in theaters until February 13th.

I went into “While…” with high expectations, and honestly, it exceeded them. The initial buzz was strong, and sometimes that’s just hype – a disconnect between early praise and the actual Rotten Tomatoes score. But in this case? The positive reactions were absolutely spot on. This movie truly delivers.

Okay, so I just read a review of Crime 101 and here’s the deal: the reviewer at IndieWire, Ryan Lattanzio, thinks it feels a little… familiar. He says it’s basically a retread of those fun heist movies we loved from the 90s and early 2000s, but with a less impressive cast. Still, he thinks it’s competently made and worth checking out if you’re into the genre – it’s got enough going for it to be entertaining.

According to Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter, the film boasts a complex but rewarding plot with unexpected connections. It’s visually impressive, filmed extensively in Los Angeles, and features strong acting from a large ensemble cast – even the smaller parts are played by well-known actors.

The review notes that while Crime 101 aims for an ambitious, sweeping story, it doesn’t quite succeed, and its flaws become noticeable. Despite this, the movie is commendable for its effort, and ultimately received a positive rating.

Matt Goldberg from Commentary Track praises Bart Layton’s crime thriller, highlighting its exciting and fast-paced nature. Jonathan Romney of the Financial Times agrees, noting the film clearly draws inspiration from classic crime films like those by Michael Mann and Walter Hill’s The Driver, even referencing Steve McQueen’s work. Romney believes Crime 101 successfully lives up to the high standard set by these influential movies.

What Is Crime 101 About?

Bart Layton’s first feature film is a new crime thriller taking place in Los Angeles. It centers around Mike Davis, a jewel thief whose daring robberies along the 101 freeway have stumped the police.

Mike is on the verge of pulling off an incredible score, but his plans collide with an insurance broker at a turning point in her own life. Meanwhile, a determined detective believes he’s cracked the case and is getting closer, increasing the pressure. As the heist draws near, it becomes unclear who is chasing whom, and all three individuals must make difficult decisions with irreversible consequences.

Crime 101 is based on the popular 2020 novella of the same title by Don Winslow. The series stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and features Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Nick Nolte.

I was really excited about Crime 101 because it had such a fantastic cast, and apparently, they spent around $90 million making it! It’s going to need to earn over $200 million to really be considered a hit, but the initial reactions have been amazing, and it’s even got a perfect score right now, so I’m hoping it does incredibly well in theaters.

Crime 101 debuts in theaters on Feb. 13.
