The 49th season of Survivor is coming to an end on CBS next year, and viewers are curious to find out how much money all the contestants will earn, beyond the standard $1 million prize for the winner. The finale will be a three-hour broadcast, but due to a recent change, not everyone will be able to watch it all at once on December 17th.
The season finale of Season 49 was initially planned for Wednesday, December 17th, from 8 to 11 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time on CBS. However, CBS has changed its schedule for that night to broadcast an address to the nation by President Trump at 9 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time. You can watch the address on CBS, the CBS News channel, CBSNews.com/live, the CBS News app, or with a Paramount+ subscription.
CBS won’t cancel the December 17th episode of Survivor completely, but viewers on the East and Central coasts will have their viewing interrupted. The finale will begin at 8 p.m. Eastern Time as scheduled, but will be cut short at 9 p.m. to make way for the presidential address.
The season finale will continue directly after the previous episode, airing at the same time across all time zones. This means viewers won’t miss anything. However, those outside of the Pacific Time zone will either have the finale interrupted by President Trump’s address or need to watch it later online to avoid pausing during the address.
Fans on the East and Central time zones will have to watch the finale in two parts, which will likely disappoint many who have been eagerly awaiting the milestone 50th season, set to premiere early in the 2026 TV season. Although Jeff Probst feels the game has changed and some viewers haven’t connected with recent villains, the finale is still expected to attract a large audience, even with the presidential election potentially interrupting viewing.
The final five contestants are Sage Ahrens-Nichols (Olympia), Sophie Balerdi (Miami), Savannah Louie (Atlanta), Kristina Mills (Edmond), and Rizo Velovic (Yonkers). You can watch the finale on CBS December 17th at 8 p.m., but viewers in the Eastern and Central time zones may have to wait or stream it the next day. Season 50, a special milestone season, will premiere on CBS on Wednesday, February 25th.
