People are loving the American version of the popular British sitcom on Paramount+. It’s quickly become a hit on the streaming service, which is owned by Paramount and Skydance.
The comedy show Ghosts is currently the ninth most popular title on Paramount+ in the U.S., according to FlixPatrol. It’s held that position for the last three days, after previously reaching number five. Ghosts is also performing well internationally, ranking at number nine in Canada and number six in Australia.
Ghosts Is Still Going Strong on CBS After 5 Seasons
Ghosts is a comedy series that originally aired on BBC One from 2019 to 2023. Joe Port and Joe Wiseman then created an American version, also acting as its showrunners. As of today, the American Ghosts has aired 86 episodes over five seasons, having premiered on CBS on October 7, 2021.
I’m so excited about the new show, Ghosts! Rose McIlver and Utkarsh Ambudkar are fantastic as Samantha and Jay, a married couple from New York. The story kicks off when they unexpectedly inherit a gorgeous old house from Sam’s great aunt, and they think their luck has finally changed!
The couple quickly discovers their new house is crumbling and haunted by ghosts from various points in American history. These spirits are tied to the property, appearing as they did when they died. Although Jay is unaware of the ghosts, Sam can see and hear them after a close call at the beginning of the series.
The main ghosts haunting Woodstone Manor are played by Brandon Scott Jones, Danielle Pinnock, Richie Moriarty, Asher Grodman, Sheila Carrasco, Devan Chandler Long, Rebecca Wisocky, and Román Zaragoza. They portray a diverse group of spirits: Captain Isaac Higgintoot, a gay officer from the Revolutionary War who kept his sexuality hidden; Alberta Haynes, a jazz singer from the Prohibition era; Pete Martino, a travel agent and leader of the quirky Pinecone Troopers; Trevor Lefkowitz, a charming but unfaithful stockbroker; Flower, a forgetful hippie; and Thor, a Viking from Norway.
Ghosts’ Future Is Secure on CBS for 1 More Season
Ghosts is consistently one of CBS’s most popular shows, earning high ratings and positive reviews. It currently has a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating widespread critical acclaim.
In February 2025, the network decided to continue the sitcom for two more seasons, so viewers can expect more stories from Sam, Jay, and the ghosts. CBS has a history of successful, long-running comedies – they’re currently airing the final season of The Neighborhood. Although a renewal before season six starts is unlikely, as long as ratings stay reasonably strong, Ghosts is expected to remain on the network for quite some time.
This fall, viewers who enjoy the show Ghosts might also be interested in a new CBS sitcom from the creators of that show. Called Eternally Yours, it’s a funny series about a vampire couple married for 500 years and their reaction to their daughter’s human boyfriend.
From the beginning, Eternally Yours has shown promise. However, viewers will need to wait until April 15th, when CBS announces its 2026-27 primetime lineup, to find out if the vampire comedy will be renewed for another season alongside Ghosts.
The next episode of Ghosts Season 5, “Michael Jackson Goes to HR,” airs on CBS on Apr. 9.
