I’m trying to stay optimistic, and I understand the criticisms. So far this season, we’ve seen two eliminations that felt predictable before Tribal Council even began. We’ve also had countless stories about the players’ families dealing with difficult situations, and it seems like every Survivor castaway is constantly expressing how incredible the experience is (one person even described it as being “inside the TV”). I understand why many viewers haven’t been thrilled, but I disagree with the fix that’s being suggested.

The Substance is a strange but fascinating horror film centering around a fading Hollywood actress. As Elisabeth Sparkle approaches her 50th birthday, she begins to lose her vitality. She’s let go from her exercise TV program because she’s considered too old to continue. Following a terrible car crash, Elisabeth is presented with a potential fix: an innovative product called the Substance, advertised as a miraculous serum promising to rejuvenate her appearance. The only catch? She must strictly adhere to all the instructions. As the (bizarre) Rotten Tomatoes synopsis explains:

In this particular scene, Jacob Anderson’s character, Louis, is back in New Orleans after many years away. Following a city tour where he hears a funny, but inaccurate story about his past with Lestat, he seeks out the French vampire. This was the first time we see Sam Reid’s portrayal of the vampire in the present timeline, and that’s what makes this moment so memorable for me.
