This new film, set in 1930s Chicago and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, reimagines the classic tale of Frankenstein. Christian Bale plays the lonely monster who asks a doctor to create a companion for him, bringing a young woman – known as “The Bride” and played by Jessie Buckley – back to life. The film is a fresh take on Bride of Frankenstein, which itself was inspired by a small part of Mary Shelley’s original Frankenstein novel. However, this version gives The Bride a history of her own and a chance at a real relationship with Frankenstein.

Currently, The House with a Clock in Its Walls is the seventh most popular movie on Netflix in the United States, according to FlixPatrol. The film, which stars Jack Black and Cate Blanchett, was added to Netflix on March 3rd and has become a hit with viewers, even though it received mixed reviews when it first came out.

Even though these stories are now reaching wider audiences and gaining new fans through films and TV shows, adaptations often feel hesitant to fully embrace the source material. While some changes are expected when adapting to a different format, these changes seem overly careful, and it’s time for a bolder approach.

ABC has confirmed that both 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville will be back for the 2026-27 television season. This means 9-1-1 will reach its tenth season, and 9-1-1: Nashville will be renewed for a second. The decision comes as both shows have been performing well for the network, consistently ranking among the top 10 dramas in key viewing demographics (ages 18-49). 9-1-1: Nashville has been particularly successful, becoming the No. 1 new drama in that same demographic, so the renewal isn’t unexpected.

ABC has confirmed that High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson, will be back for a third season. However, the return date is currently unknown, as the show is looking for a new showrunner after Todd Harthan’s departure.

The cast for Harry Potter was officially announced on March 5th on the website. Joining the Gryffindor team is Orson Matthews, who will play the energetic Quidditch captain, Oliver Wood. Asha Soetan will play Angelina Johnson, Eire Farrell will be Katie Bell, and Serrana Su-Ling Bliss will play Alicia Spinnet, also as members of the Quidditch team.

The Fantastic Four team – consisting of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing – was first introduced in last year’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. These four heroes make up Marvel’s First Family.

The film One Battle After Another shifts dramatically in tone, which could be jarring for viewers, but the skillful editing by Andy Jurgensen, along with director Paul Thomas Anderson’s vision, prevents that. Jurgensen has been nominated for his first Oscar and first worked with Anderson in 2014 as an assistant editor on Inherent Vice. He’s since become a frequent collaborator, also editing Phantom Thread and Licorice Pizza.

The TV show Vikings features many memorable characters who have shown intelligence, resilience, and strength while facing the difficulties of life in the medieval world. Overcoming these challenges, fighting through them, or accepting them with dignity demonstrates impressive inner strength. But which character best embodies a complete ability to survive and flourish during this chaotic time?
