Okay, so I just finished watching 8-Bit Christmas, and it was seriously charming! It’s about a grown-up looking back to when he was a kid in 1988, and all he wanted for Christmas was a Nintendo Entertainment System. He’s telling this story to his own daughter, trying to show her she doesn’t need the latest tech. The kid actors are amazing – Winslow Fegley is fantastic – and the movie is full of hilarious supporting performances from people like Neil Patrick Harris and Steve Zahn. It’s a really well-made film; it actually has an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is super close to A Christmas Story! Both movies are considered classics, landing at #20 and #56 respectively on Rotten Tomatoes’ list of the best Christmas movies ever. I definitely recommend checking it out if you’re looking for a fun, nostalgic Christmas movie!

The first season of Stranger Things was a hit, and it started with a group of young boys who meet Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). Their lives quickly become chaotic—and that’s no accident! Like the movie The Goonies, the show focuses on the kids and their adventures. While adults like Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) are important characters, they’re initially left in the dark. The story is about the kids solving mysteries and battling scary forces using their own ingenuity, and the adults aren’t central to that process.
When Claire goes missing, her family starts searching for her while also confronting their own flaws and realizing they often took her for granted. The film features a talented cast including Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz, Dominic Sessa, Denis Leary, Maude Apatow, Devery Jacobs, and Jason Schwartzman.
As an Indiana native, I was a little disappointed that the show ‘Stranger Things’ portrays Hawkins as a typical 1980s town instead of highlighting details specific to Indiana during that era. However, the production team clearly pays attention to detail, as they included a sticker referencing a well-known Indiana radio show.
Taylor Sheridan has had mixed success in movies, with films like Wind River doing well and Those Who Wish Me Dead not performing as strongly. However, he’s found tremendous success on television. Yellowstone was a massive hit for Paramount+, consistently attracting more viewers until its final episode in December 2024. The show’s spin-offs, 1883 and 1923, were nearly as popular as the original series.
