After gaining a following with popular comedies like Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy in the 1990s, Kevin Smith took on his most challenging project yet in 1999. This new film skillfully combined his signature observational humor with surprisingly thoughtful themes, creating a unique and often funny mix. That same blend of high and low culture was reflected in the cast, which included both frequent collaborators like Jason Lee and Jason Mewes, and established stars like Chris Rock and Alan Rickman. To play two rebellious angels determined to prove God wrong, Smith cast his friends and fellow actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Season 2 is far from bad – in fact, it still beautifully portrays the West Texas oilfields and features the compelling character of Tommy Norris. However, there are some valid concerns fans have raised. As the most popular show Taylor Sheridan has created since Yellowstone ended, the team needs to address these issues to ensure the show continues to be successful beyond its third season. While the current season can’t be altered, improvements are needed for the show’s future.

Despite becoming a beloved cult film over time, Silent Night, Deadly Night was initially met with criticism and poor reviews in the 1980s. It currently has a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and an even lower 40% audience score.

Zack Snyder was chosen to lead a new series of DC Comics movies, starting with his 2013 film Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill. That Superman movie had a darker, more realistic tone, which became the standard for the emerging DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Snyder was set to continue building the franchise with more standalone films and a two-part Justice League story. Unfortunately, those plans changed, largely because fans didn’t respond well to his next film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, despite its box office success. Similar to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition is a much-improved director’s cut that wasn’t released in theaters.

The crew grew apart from Billy Butcher as he fully became “Joe Kessler,” embracing his newfound superpowers. He violently killed Victoria Neuman and vowed to wipe out all supes with a dangerous virus he’d obtained. Butcher then drove off alone, appearing headed for a violent and likely fatal confrontation.

Josh O’Connor delivers another quietly powerful performance in “The Mastermind” (following “Rebuilding,” which is also worth seeing). He plays J.B. Mooney, a jobless father of two in the quiet Massachusetts town of Framingham. The film is set in 1970, and the rising opposition to the Vietnam War provides a key backdrop to the story. This historical detail not only captures the mood of the time but also mirrors J.B.’s personal struggles.
