A recently discovered scene shows Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, from the 2025 film Fantastic Four: First Steps. Evans is officially returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe later this year in Avengers: Doomsday. This will be his first major appearance as the character since his retirement in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
A reliable source says Chris Evans could have returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe earlier than he did. Industry insider John Rocha shared on the podcast The Hot Mic that there were original plans for the original Avengers—including Evans—to make a cameo in the post-credits scene of Fantastic Four: First Steps, but the scene was eventually removed from the film.
According to Rocha, the scene would have shown the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom inviting Captain America (Steve Rogers) to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hoping to earn the trust of other heroes.
The Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom reportedly asked Captain America to join them in traveling to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (Earth-616) to build trust with its heroes. This scene was originally intended for after the credits of the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, but was cut. However, it’s still possible it could appear somewhere in the final version.
He didn’t reveal the specific reasons for the unlikely team-up between Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four, given their history as rivals, but suggested, “Perhaps something Steve did created a problem that requires them to collaborate.”
At first, they might not be enemies at all. Perhaps they’re actually collaborating because something Steve did created a problem in their world. They arrive claiming to offer assistance, but then Doctor Doom unexpectedly turns against them all.
A source known as MyTimeToShineHello previously mentioned a deleted scene featuring Steve Rogers. However, the details have changed. Before the release of First Steps, this reliable Marvel insider predicted that Chris Evans’ character would appear in a post-credits scene as Nomad, a darker, villainous take on the hero.
The final post-credits scene was quite different from what fans initially expected. Instead of the anticipated scene, the movie ended with a mysterious Doctor Doom appearing in the Richards family’s home, standing over young Franklin.
People thought this scene was setting up a plot where the masked villain would kidnap the Fantastic Four’s latest member. However, it might actually be building towards the team working together, as Rocha has hinted.
A recent trailer for the new Marvel film briefly showed Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The clip offered a glimpse into his peaceful retired life with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and their child.
Fans can see the Fantastic Four and Captain America in the upcoming movie, Doomsday, hitting theaters on December 18th. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the team behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Endgame, the film follows Earth’s heroes as they battle the villain Doctor Doom across different universes.
Steve Rogers’ Role In Avengers: Doomsday

It appears Marvel Studios initially planned to show Steve Rogers’ return in a scene after the credits of Fantastic Four: First Steps, but they ultimately decided to save the reveal for the first teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. Even though that Fantastic Four scene didn’t make it into the final movie, it’s still possible fans will see that moment happen on screen sometime in the future.
Recently, Marvel Studios has been using post-credit scenes that come directly from their upcoming Doomsday project. For example, the Thunderbolts post-credit scene showed a rocket with the Fantastic Four logo appearing in space, while the Fantastic Four movie teased Doctor Doom and Franklin Richards.
It’s likely this quick scene might appear in the next Marvel team-up movie.
Rumors suggest Doctor Doom’s latest scheme, called ‘Doomsday,’ involves tracking down and eliminating alternate versions of people from across the Marvel Multiverse who have drastically altered the timeline. Apparently, this would include Chris Evans’ version of Captain America.
The next movie might feature Doctor Doom tricking the Fantastic Four into traveling through different realities. He could pretend it’s for a good reason, but then reveal his true, villainous intentions – perhaps even eliminating a key character like Captain America to establish himself as the main antagonist fans have been anticipating.
